Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays everyone is trying to shift from rural areas to urban areas becuase there are more facilities and opportunities than rural areas. As more population means that government should make more housing facilities to cope with the growth of individuals in the area. I agree to the statement that authority should build tall buildings to accumulate more people in one place, rather than expanding the land horizontally.
As taller apartment blocks are more efficient, as less amount of land is used saving forests and ultimately desertification. Building a house is quite expensive and takes four to five years to build, however a building has number of apartments and individuals can choose according to there preferences. For example, I moved to Germany for my further studies, The first problem I tackled there was finding a place to live as I was an international student, but eventually I found an appartment block that was for students.
However taller buildings also have some cons of its on like it takes at least 10-15 years to build even if its more affordable than building homes but the wait is very long. Also the elderly might find it difficult to use stairs, if the elevators are not working. For example, There was no appartments available in the city I was working and after contacting multiple appartments the miniming time for avaiability is 3 months.
So the conclusion comes to the point is taller buildings can accomodate more families and more feisable but building them is quite time consuming and has problems that needs to be keep in mind before choosing them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by discussing whether tall apartment blocks are the best solution to provide urban housing, clearly stating an agreement with the prompt. The writer presents relevant ideas, such as efficiency in land use and environmental protection, alongside counterarguments regarding construction time and accessibility for the elderly. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally shifts focus. For instance, the second paragraph mentions saving forests and then abruptly transitions to personal anecdotes about moving to Germany. Similarly, the third body paragraph conflates construction duration with apartment availability. While a clear position is maintained throughout, the supporting examples lack sufficient depth to reach a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate different aspects of the argument, such as advantages and disadvantages. However, progression is sometimes hindered by abrupt transitions between sentences and ideas, such as moving directly from environmental concerns to personal housing struggles in the second paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, but they can be repetitive or somewhat mechanical, relying frequently on 'For example', 'However', and 'So'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in the phrasing 'cons of its on like'. Paragraphs lack smooth internal signposting, resulting in a somewhat choppy flow. These features place the response firmly in the Band 6 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas about urban housing. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary items, such as 'accumulate', 'desertification', and 'feasible' (spelled 'feisable'). However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, including spelling mistakes like 'becuase', 'appartment', and 'miniming'. Collocations are also occasionally imprecise, such as 'making more housing facilities' instead of 'providing more housing', and 'cons of its on' instead of 'pros and cons'. While communication is rarely impeded, these frequent inaccuracies prevent the score from rising into the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with structures like 'As taller apartment blocks are more efficient, as less amount of land is used...' However, this particular sentence exhibits grammatical awkwardness and a double-conjunction error. There are several other structural and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as comma splices ('...for my further studies, The first problem...'), subject-verb agreement issues ('problems that needs to be keep'), and preposition errors ('find it difficult to use stairs, if the elevators are not working'). Although these errors do not severely impede overall communication, their frequency means that error-free sentences are not in the majority, aligning the grammar with a Band 5.5 performance.
