Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether tall apartment blocks are the best solution for urban housing, presenting a mixed view. However, there are notable limitations. First, the response is under the minimum word count requirement, containing only 220 words instead of the required 250, which negatively impacts the extent of task fulfillment. Second, the ideas are relatively basic and lack full development. For example, the writer mentions that tall apartments save land and provide accommodation near facilities, but these points are stated rather than deeply explored or supported with concrete examples. Similarly, the counter-argument regarding health problems like high blood pressure is introduced briefly without elaboration. Therefore, the response aligns best with Band 5, as the task is only partially addressed due to length constraints and limited idea development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, reflecting an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a basic organizational structure present. However, overall progression is hindered by frequent structural and mechanical issues. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as the transitions 'On one hand', 'On ther hand', and 'In conclusion made the large apparent'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical flow is disrupted by frequent grammatical errors and punctuation omissions. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion lacks precision and sophistication. This level of organization and cohesive control corresponds to a Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited, repetitive vocabulary that is minimally adequate for discussing the topic. Phrases like 'providing the enough home', 'hotly debated topic', and 'large apartment for living people' demonstrate basic word choice and noticeable collocational errors (e.g., 'made the small enough house', 'suffer in many diseases'). There are also spelling errors such as 'offic', 'ther', 'fore', and 'preferaable'. Less common lexical items are attempted with frequent inaccuracy, causing some difficulty for the reader at times. These characteristics are typical of Band 5 lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences predominate, and attempts at complex sentences are consistently faulty, such as 'This issue is particularly significant due to increased in population of people' and 'Moreover the other advantages is in large apartments in big cities people can feel a lot numbers of problem'. There are frequent and systematic errors in tense, article usage, word forms, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the issue... have become', 'government should made', 'people live private and healthy life'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5 descriptor.
