Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in agreement with the statement that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The writer presents relevant main ideas, such as maximizing land efficiency to accommodate multiple families and acknowledging counter-arguments regarding environmental impacts, natural light, and affordability. However, the development of these ideas remains somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the explanation regarding building materials does not fully connect back to the core argument about housing provision, and the points about disadvantages are somewhat disjointed. To achieve a higher band score, the writer needs to extend and support ideas with more specific details or examples, ensuring each paragraph contributes directly to the central thesis without over-generalising.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some overall organization with recognizable paragraphing, including a clear introduction and conclusion. However, progression is frequently hindered by weak cohesive devices and poor transitional phrases. For instance, transitional phrases like 'In this modern life very thing is change' and 'on the other hand, here are some disadvantages' are abrupt and sometimes grammatically flawed. Pronoun referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'so they create large building like skyscrapers so more and more people can like in the city', which creates confusion about who 'they' refers to. While the text is generally structured into topical paragraphs, the lack of smooth, varied cohesive devices and logical transitions pulls the coherence score down to Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally strain the reader. Examples of noticeable lexical errors include 'posible' instead of possible, 'bulid' instead of build, 'slove' instead of solve, 'comprassion' instead of comparison, and 'states' instead of estates. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'skyscrapers' and construction materials like 'limestone', but these are undermined by pervasive spelling mistakes ('very thing is change' instead of everything has changed, 'in the favour' instead of in favour). The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, qualifying for a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and heavily strung-together clauses connected by coordinating conjunctions like 'and' or 'so'. Complex sentences attempted by the writer are frequently faulty and lack proper punctuation, leading to run-on sentences such as: 'Building the tall building in the large citites it slove a lot of issues like it requires area to build more house for multiple family, so they create large building like skyscrapers so more and more people can like in the city and enjoy their life.' Frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and article usage occur throughout the response, causing some difficulty for the reader. Therefore, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
