Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by stating an agreement with the idea that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The writer attempts to support this position with several ideas, such as saving agricultural land, preventing natural calamities, and fostering community interaction. However, many of these ideas are repetitive, overly generalized, and under-developed. For instance, the claim that tall buildings can reduce natural calamities lacks clear reasoning and is not fully explained. Furthermore, the argument loops back to social interactions and a sense of brotherhood multiple times without advancing new perspectives. While the writer presents a clear position and attempts to cover the task, the lack of well-developed supporting arguments places this performance firmly at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text exhibits basic organizational structure with attempts at logical progression, such as introducing points with words like 'However', 'Meanwhile', and 'Whereas'. However, the overall cohesion is frequently mechanical, repetitive, and occasionally confusing. For example, paragraphs are very short and sometimes consist of single, disjointed sentences that lack smooth transitions. The paragraph starting with 'However, building a tall blocks of apartment...' awkwardly restates the previous point rather than introducing a contrasting idea. Referencing is also weak, with pronouns and cohesive devices often used inaccurately or repetitively. Paragraphing is attempted, but the short, fragmented nature of the paragraphs disrupts the flow of the argument. These issues reflect the descriptors for Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource displayed is limited and repetitive, though minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'agricultural land', 'productivity', and 'calamaties', but these are accompanied by frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'bulid', 'buliding', 'neibhours', 'brotherlihood', and 'aparment'. Furthermore, collocation errors and awkward phrasing are prevalent, such as 'allot enough homes' and 'stand on problem'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic message about housing and city planning, the noticeable errors and restricted range prevent the response from achieving a higher band, making Band 5.0 an accurate reflection of the lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty and grammatically inaccurate. Examples of structural and agreement errors include 'I agree for the statement', 'constructing a tall buliding in small area can save a lot place', 'by constructing many homes in different places can consume huge of free area', and 'By constructing a tall apartment blocks, can increase social intractions'. Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary commas disrupting subject-verb relationships. Frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and mean that error-free sentences are in the minority. This aligns closely with the Band 5 descriptor for grammatical range and accuracy.
