Student answer (Band 5.0)

In today's world the most prominent way to supply more house in large cities is to build tall skyscrapers, I agree with this statement and this essay will discuss relevant reasons and examples for the same.

To begin with, in recent times where population has become a major concern for mostly every country, providing homes has also become a major issue, cause there are many places where the number of people has increased a lot compared to the number of homes, building talll apartment blocks or sky scrappers might be the only feasible solution to solve this problem. Moreover, tall sky scrappers do build a higher value and image of a area or a locality.

On the other hand, tall skyscrapers also disturb the natural habitant of other species like for instance birds might get lost or might build there nests in the residency itselft which might be a major issue for some people. Along with this, accidents also increase a greater risk of injury in this type of buildings.

In conclusion, tall sky scrappers are necessary for human development but we should also keep other species in mind and create necessary habitats for them as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses the task by stating their position agreeing with the statement, but the response falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 197 words. Due to this under-length condition, the development of ideas is limited. While the essay touches on reasons such as population concerns and environmental impacts (e.g., 'disturb the natural habitant of other species'), the arguments are under-developed and lack extended supporting examples. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a band score of 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some overall organization with basic paragraphing, separating the introduction, supporting points, counter-arguments, and conclusion. However, the progression is limited. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitively, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance, 'this type of buildings' lacks precision. There is a lack of smooth transitions between sentences and ideas, placing this text firmly at a band 5.0 for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'prominent way', 'feasible solution', and 'human development'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'habitant' instead of 'habitat', 'talll', and 'residency itselft'. Less common lexical items are attempted but often involve awkward collocations or inaccuracies, which places the lexical resource at a band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but attempts at complexity often result in run-on sentences and punctuation errors, such as comma splices in the introduction ('...skyscrapers, I agree...'). Grammatical errors are frequent, including prepositional and article mistakes like 'image of a area' instead of 'image of an area', and subject-verb agreement or spelling issues like 'accidents also increase a greater risk'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader, justifying a band score of 5.0.
