Student answer (Band 4.5)

Yes, I am 50% Agree with this statement, but 50% is disagree with this statement. Let me explain you why I'm agree & disagree with this statement, If we build tall apartment blocks in large cities it helps many peoples for living & it will consume less space & huge amount of peoples lives in 1 place. As you know there are pros & cons of everything if we build large scale of apartment we need maximum resources in one place like we need much more electricity for apartment . We need parking space much more parking space. We need lifts for apartment peoples who are living there. But main important thing or cons of build tall apartment is that pollution. Diseases chances will increase & difficult for peoples to carry things from ground floor to apartment. If we create tall apartment for many peoples then we need to provide good security for all peoples. The main issue I heard about tall apartment is that there is an issue of oxygen as you know the oxygen will be less at highest point so we check out this point. And the one more thing safety point matters too much. Some peoples enjoy the apartment for beautiful views & some peoples lives in bad conditions because of closed environment. I have few experiences of apartment, whenever I go to other city for office work I booked the apartment for living but those apartments was huge big neat & clean that's why according to my experience I love the apartment life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of tall apartment blocks, attempting a balanced view by stating 'I am 50% Agree with this statement, but 50% is disagree'. However, the position is not fully maintained throughout, and the ideas are presented as a list of basic points rather than being thoroughly developed and supported. Points such as parking, lifts, and security are introduced but remain under-developed. While all parts of the task are addressed, the lack of depth and the somewhat conversational tone align the response with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text lacks proper paragraphing, being presented as a single dense block of text, which significantly hinders the logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, relying heavily on informal spoken connectors like 'As you know' and 'And the one more thing'. Although there is an attempt to list pros and cons, the transition between ideas is abrupt and lacks structural organisation. Referencing is sometimes unclear, meaning the overall arrangement of the text falls into the Band 4 to Band 5 range, best representing Band 4 due to the complete lack of paragraphing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, featuring frequent reliance on simple words like 'apartment', 'people', and 'things'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'build tall apartment is that pollution' and 'huge big neat & clean'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary like 'consume less space' and 'resources', but the limited range and noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a Band 5 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The writing contains a very limited range of structures and relies heavily on simple sentences or run-on sentences joined by commas, such as 'If we build tall apartment blocks in large cities it helps many peoples for living & it will consume less space'. There are frequent grammatical errors, including incorrect pluralisation ('peoples'), missing articles, and faulty complex structures. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over basic grammatical forms, placing the response in Band 4.
