Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. However, the development of ideas is heavily restricted by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of clear argumentation. The writer states an initial position that both tall apartments and enough homes are good in some cases, but the body paragraphs merely repeat identical points about rooms, facilities, and moving easily, substituting the word 'homes' for 'tall apartments' with minimal variation. Consequently, the position is not fully developed or sustained. The response addresses the task only partially, as the arguments lack depth and rely on circular reasoning rather than reasoned analysis of urban housing solutions. This places the response firmly at Band 4.0 in terms of task coverage and idea extension.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks clear logical organisation and progression. While the response is broken into paragraphs, the internal structure of the body paragraphs is repetitive and lacks cohesive flow. Transitional phrases are either misused or absent, resulting in a disjointed reading experience. For example, expressions like 'First of all my experience about all of these statement' and 'In the conculison of the paragraph' demonstrate a very weak grasp of essay cohesion and signposting. Furthermore, referencing is frequently unclear, with pronouns and demonstrative adjectives such as 'this' and 'they' failing to refer back to precise antecedents. Because information and ideas are not arranged coherently across the text, the overall organisation aligns closely with Band 4 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used throughout the essay is extremely basic and repetitive. The student relies heavily on high-frequency words and phrases such as 'good for living', 'large cities', and 'facilities', repeating them multiple times in identical contexts. There is an absence of less common vocabulary or idiomatic expressions, and word choice is frequently unnatural or inaccurate, such as 'burrow the homes' instead of 'rent or buy homes'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'Beause' for because and 'conculison' for conclusion. Due to the very limited range of vocabulary and frequent lexical inaccuracies that occasionally strain the reader's comprehension, the lexical resource corresponds to a Band 4.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and severely flawed sentence structures. Almost every sentence contains grammatical errors, such as missing verbs, incorrect prepositions, and improper sentence boundaries (e.g., 'On the other hand build tall apartment blocks' and 'In large cities are good for living at the small cities'). Complex structures are rarely attempted, and when simple structures are used, frequent errors in agreement, tense, and word form persist. These widespread and frequent errors heavily impact readability and distort meaning in several places. Consequently, the grammatical accuracy reflects the descriptors for Band 4.0.
