Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at only 116 words. Because the text is severely under-length, the task is only partially addressed, and the ideas presented are largely undeveloped. While the writer attempts to take a clear position in the introduction, stating 'I firmly agree with this statement,' the arguments are truncated and lose coherence before fully exploring the prompt. Specifically, the notion of building tall blocks in cities is conflated with rural housing in the opening sentence, and the body paragraph drifts into a confusing example regarding a BRICS event in Delhi. Consequently, the development of the topic is insufficient to satisfy the requirements of Task 2. This lack of adequate length and full development severely restricts the overall task achievement score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay displays significant structural and cohesive limitations. While the writer attempts to use standard signposting phrases such as 'To begin with' and 'For instance,' the overall organization is severely hampered by the abrupt ending of the text mid-sentence ('...and i'). The paragraphing is also flawed, as the response consists of only an introduction and an incomplete first body paragraph. Logical progression is difficult to maintain because the ideas jump awkwardly from urban accommodation problems to rural housing, and then abruptly to an international political event in India. Furthermore, referencing is unclear in places, such as 'that is why some believe,' making the connections between ideas mechanical and difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, reflecting a limited range suitable for this task. There are several noticeable word choice and spelling errors that impede communication, such as 'accomodation' instead of accommodation, 'buildind' instead of building, and 'foreing' instead of foreign. The writer attempts some less common phrases like 'overall economy' and 'modern apartment amenities,' but these are undermined by awkward phrasing and inaccuracies, such as 'many countries political came.' Because the lexical range is constrained and frequent errors occur in spelling and word formation, the writing sits comfortably within the lower-intermediate band for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that contain frequent errors. For instance, the opening sentence contains a major structural error: 'A large number of cities people may faces accomodation problem that is why some believe...' This demonstrates a lack of control over basic clause structures and subject-verb agreement ('people may faces'). Punctuation is also problematic, marked by missing commas, run-on structures, and a trailing sentence that finishes abruptly. Although the writer attempts complex subordination, these attempts are consistently faulty. Due to the high frequency of grammatical and punctuation errors that cause difficulty for the reader, the grammar score reflects these persistent issues.
