Student answer (Band 4.0)

First of all best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. People like their own space. They like freedom. Everyone wants to buy their own home. And I think that I agree with this statement to provide homes.

In large cities is to build tall apartment blocks for the people. Because apartment price is very cheap in large cities. Also If someone wants their home they can not buy land because land price was very rising every year in large cities.

In the apartment they provide facilities. But people have to pay maintance fee every month. If people wants to do some work they have to ask permission from the manager. What If their work disturbed someone.

If people buy their own home with land. They can do anything. They can decided which type of interior they want in their home. In their home they didn't have to ask permission for work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response addresses the prompt regarding whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities, but it falls significantly short of the word count requirement, containing only 159 words compared to the minimum of 250 words. Because of this severe under-length, the ideas are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. While the writer attempts to present a position ('I think that I agree with this statement'), the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, points about land prices and personal freedom are introduced but not adequately explained. Due to the failure to meet the minimum word length and the resulting lack of task development, this performance corresponds to Band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text is divided into short paragraphs, but the overall organization lacks logical progression and clear cohesion. Many sentences begin abruptly, and transition words are sparse or misused, such as starting multiple paragraphs with 'In large cities...' or 'If people...'. Referencing and substitution are handled poorly, leading to a disjointed flow where ideas feel isolated rather than building into a cohesive argument. Paragraphing is attempted, but individual paragraphs consist of only two or three choppy sentences. Overall, the structural framework is basic and exhibits mechanical flaws that warrant a Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive throughout the essay, relying heavily on simple words such as 'home', 'city', 'people', and 'work'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'apartment price is very cheap' instead of 'rent or apartment prices are low' and 'land price was very rising' instead of 'land prices are rising rapidly'. The student attempts words like 'maintenance' and 'permission', but spelling and usage are occasionally inaccurate ('maintance'). Because the lexical range is narrow and repetitive with errors that occasionally strain understanding, this earns a Band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences and repetitive conditional clauses ('If people want...', 'What if...'). There are frequent grammatical errors, including tense inconsistencies ('land price was very rising') and missing articles or pluralization issues ('In the apartment they provide facilities' and 'in their home they didn't have to ask permission'). Punctuation is also problematic, with several sentence fragments used inappropriately (e.g., 'Because apartment price is very cheap in large cities.'). Due to the frequent errors and restricted structural variety, a Band 4.0 is awarded.
