Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The writer takes a clear position in favour of tall apartments, citing economic efficiency and shared facilities like gyms and swimming pools. However, the development of ideas is limited and hampered by expression issues. For instance, the example comparing a 3 BHK home to an apartment that houses 35 homes attempts to support the argument, but the expression is vague and lacks precise elaboration. While the prompt is addressed and a position is maintained throughout, the ideas remain underdeveloped and somewhat repetitive. This aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, where the task is addressed, but the position is not always clearly articulated and ideas are limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing a basic structure including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor cohesion and referencing. Phrases like 'Nowdays the retaing market' and 'In the other side' indicate awkward transitions and mechanical use of cohesive devices. Pronoun referencing is also weak, such as in 'if that convert into a one apartment then that space use', making it difficult to follow the logical flow of ideas. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is faulty. This corresponds to the Band 5 descriptor, where there is some organisation, but overall progression is unclear and cohesive devices are inadequate or inaccurate.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

Lexical resource is a notable weak point in this response. The vocabulary is basic, repetitive, and plagued by severe spelling and word-choice errors that frequently impede communication. Examples of non-standard forms include 'belive', 'incresing', 'humna', 'popluation', 'retaing', 'hight', 'emploment', 'ration', 'suffient', 'spce', 'help-ful', 'occupide', 'fesalities', 'spartment', and 'bhuil'. The student attempts to use less common words such as 'facilities' and 'employment', but misspells them consistently. The range of vocabulary is limited and strained, fitting the Band 4 descriptor where basic, repetitive vocabulary and numerous errors impede the reading process and cause strain.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that are heavily flawed. The text contains frequent, dense errors in punctuation, tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Examples include 'Because in apartment building structure is more then home avalable at the in small areas' and 'every small or middel man are esaily get the new home'. Clauses are frequently disjointed, and prepositions are misused ('conditions wise'). Because errors are pervasive across almost every sentence and frequently distort meaning or cause difficulty for the reader, this performance matches the Band 4 descriptor.
