Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student presents a clear position on the topic, agreeing that high-rise apartment blocks are the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. They attempt to support this stance with arguments relating to environmental preservation and improved living standards. However, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 233 words, which limits the depth of idea development. Furthermore, the final paragraph cuts off mid-sentence ('In conclusion, although high-rise buildin'), indicating that the task is incomplete. While the main arguments regarding deforestation and amenities are relevant, the under-length nature of the response and the truncation of the conclusion prevent a higher score, aligning it with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is structured into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a truncated conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, and transitional markers such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'For example' are used to sequence ideas. However, referencing and logical progression are sometimes hindered by mechanical transitions and abrupt shifts, such as the sudden pivot using 'However' in the third paragraph ('However, tall apartment building plays an imperative role...'). Additionally, because the conclusion is incomplete, the overall structural progression is disrupted. Cohesive devices are present but used with limited flexibility, resulting in a performance that fits the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'indespensable', 'ecosysmtem', and 'imperative', but there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text (e.g., 'high-rises apartments' instead of 'high-rise apartments', 'indespensable', 'ecosysmtem', 'societities', 'naturqal', 'convienent', 'lifes'). The range of vocabulary is adequate to convey basic ideas, but recurrent errors in spelling and word formation cause occasional strain for the reader. These limitations place the lexical resource squarely within the Band 5.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'high-rises apartments is' and 'tall apartment blocks is'. Punctuation and article usage also contain errors (e.g., 'In pakistan', 'a normal colonies residents'). While simple sentences are generally understandable, attempts at more complex formulations often introduce grammatical faults. Because these errors occur frequently and occasionally impede smooth reading, the grammar is reflective of a Band 5.0 level.
