Student answer (Band 5.0)
People think that constructing tall apartment blocks is the most convenient way to provide enough accommodation for residents in big cities. This sort of development will be very beneficial to deal with the needs of rising population in big cities, as well as it will increase the employment prospects for hotel staff management. As far as I am concerned, I totally agree with this point of view.
As the big cities are becoming populated day by day, it has raised concerns about their accommodation. Building tall apartments would be a very easy way to provide enough homes to them. For instance, a tall hotel consists of as many as 20 floors, with around 10 rooms per floor. Moreover, hotel staff provide many facilities, especially thorough cleaning and providing proper meals facilities. Above all, such kind of hotels are built in the calm and soothing environment, away from hustle and bustle of city life. To conclude, constructing such concrete jungles fulfills all the basic needs of people.
In big hotels, a large number of staff is required to provide different kinds of facilities. For example, an expert manager would be required to supervise all the workers, a master chef would teach other small cooks about cooking, and many skilled architects would be needed for the construction work. Therefore, the number of job opportunities would be immensely raised in such a field. All in all, if such a development is done in large cities, it will also take part in the GDP of country.
To sum up, building large apartment blocks is a very convenient way to provide homes for a significant number of people in one building. In addition, it provides employments to people having management skills. For all these reasons, I totally agree with this point of view

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position agreeing with the statement, though the argument conflates tall apartment blocks with hotels. Throughout the body paragraphs, the student writes about "a tall hotel" and "big hotels" rather than residential apartment blocks, which results in some confusion regarding the core topic. While the prompt asks about providing homes, the student shifts focus towards hotel facilities and tourism management employment. Ideas are presented, such as increasing employment and addressing housing shortages, but they are under-developed and lack extension. For instance, the mention of hotel staff providing proper meals does not directly support the concept of residential housing in large cities. Therefore, the task response aligns best with Band 5 due to the partial misinterpretation of the core subject and limited development of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, such as housing benefits in paragraph two and employment prospects in paragraph three. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by abrupt transitions and a lack of logical flow between sentences. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as "Above all, such kind of hotels" and "All in all, if such a development is done". Referencing is also occasionally unclear, particularly when the pronoun "them" in the second paragraph lacks a precise, logical antecedent. The text demonstrates an organizational framework, but cohesive devices are inadequate and repetitive, leading to a score of 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, utilizing phrases like "big cities", "tall apartment blocks", and "basic needs". There are noticeable attempts at less common vocabulary, such as "employment prospects", "hustle and bustle", and "concrete jungles", but these are sometimes awkwardly used or inappropriate for the context, such as referring to residential blocks as hotels. Word choice errors occur, including "providing proper meals facilities" and "immensely raised". Spelling is generally accurate, but the limited range of vocabulary and frequent collocation issues place this performance securely at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempts at subordination using connectors like "as" and "if". However, attempts at complex structures frequently contain errors, such as "as well as it will increase the employment prospects" and "such kind of hotels are built in the calm and soothing environment". There are grammatical inaccuracies and awkward phrasings throughout, such as "take part in the GDP of country" (missing article) and "provides employments" (uncountable noun used as plural). While communication is generally maintained, frequent errors in grammar and article usage cause some difficulty, making Band 5 the appropriate descriptor match.
