Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is claimed that the best way to provide sufficient homes in big cities is to build tall apartment blocks. I completely agree with this statement because if we start to build separate houses for every single individual more land is required and we also have supply facilities to them. Building tall apartment blocks benefit to many sectors of businesses and people, as no more land is needed to build apartment separately.
On one hand, building tall apartment blocks are essential because if we start to build a single apartment for every single individual then we have to clean more land for it. Cleaning more and more land for residents might cause shortage of land for farming especially for those countries that only rely on farming and agriculture. For example, the population of India has been increasing for last 20 years and now they have to build tall apartments for homes due to the fact they are facing shortage of land for farming.
On the other hand, many large cities are now starts to construct tall apartments because they have to provide facilities to everyone and it is helpful for them to make houses at a single place instead of spreading them. The other advantage is many large cities may have to do construction only in range of land which is provided to them by government and by building tall apartments they can manage the area in which they have to survive.
To conclude, building a tall apartment may help authorities to manage everything with perfection and accuracy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt directly, taking a clear and consistent position in agreement with the statement that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The writer supports this position with relevant arguments, such as land conservation for farming and the efficiency of concentrating municipal services and infrastructure. For instance, the example regarding India's increasing population and agricultural needs effectively illustrates the argument about land preservation. However, some ideas are a bit repetitive and under-developed, particularly in the third paragraph where the points about government land limits and survival areas are slightly vague. Nevertheless, the main parts of the task are adequately covered, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 6.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the writing is divided into distinct paragraphs. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'To conclude,' which help guide the reader through the text. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or mechanical. For example, the transition phrases are standard but repetitive, and the pronoun reference in 'supply facilities to them' is slightly unclear. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logical progression within the body paragraphs occasionally stumbles due to slightly convoluted sentence structures. Overall, the organizational framework aligns well with the descriptors for a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to urban development and housing such as 'sufficient homes,' 'supply facilities,' 'shortage of land,' and 'agriculture.' There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is sometimes accompanied by inappropriate word choices or awkward collocations, such as 'cleaning more land' instead of clearing land, and 'manage the area in which they have to survive.' Spelling is generally accurate, and while word choice errors do occur, they do not impede communication. This performance fits comfortably within the Band 6.0 descriptor for Lexical Resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures such as 'if we start to build separate houses...' and subordinate clauses. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('building tall apartment blocks are essential') and missing prepositions or articles. Punctuation is basic, with some run-on tendencies. While these errors can occasionally cause the reader to pause, they do not fundamentally distort the meaning or impede overall communication. The command of grammar and sentence structures reflects a solid Band 6.0 level.
