Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued that the best method to provide a large quantity of houses in urban areas is to build tall apartment blocks rather than single-story house. From my perspective I strongly believe that in the modern era to control the rapid growing population in urban cities it is essential to construct the tall apartments blocks.
First and foremost, the government should construct the tall apartment blocks which leads to require a sufficient amount to establish to these projects. For instance, tall building enhance the residential issue such as in a single- story house all expenses are responsibilty of a single man. In addition it is a more difficult situation to manage all the things. Furthermore, in a single-story house, individuals and elders suffer a loneliness and depression due to no gathering.
Furthermore, tall buildings could be a risk of disasters like natural accidents and noise pollution. Too much noise pollution creates a disturbance of elder people. Because they wants to a peaceful environment in old age. As compared to single apartment provide a peacefull environment for elder people. It is beneficial for their mental health. For instance, elder people cannot use the stairs because their physical health condition does not allow them.
In conclusion, although some people argue this issue.
In my opinion I would contend that to control the rapid population growth government and other authorities should establish the tall apartment blocks and also provide for all residential requirements to live the best standard life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task question regarding whether tall apartment blocks are the best solution for urban housing, clearly stating a position in the introduction. However, the development of ideas is hampered by confusing logic and contradictory points. For instance, in the second body paragraph, the writer states that tall buildings create risks like natural disasters and noise pollution, which supposedly harms elders, but then confusingly switches to argue that 'single apartment[s] provide a peacefull environment' before immediately returning to discuss mobility issues with stairs. Furthermore, the length requirement is NOT met, as the response contains 248 words, falling just two words short of the 250-word minimum, which incurs a penalty on Task Achievement. These factors restrict the score to Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
There is an attempt at organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but the overall progression is frequently derailed by abrupt shifts in topic and illogical paragraph sequencing. Cohesive devices are repetitive and sometimes inaccurate, such as the frequent, awkward use of 'Furthermore' to introduce unrelated or contradictory ideas. Paragraphing is also poorly managed; the second body paragraph mixes entirely separate arguments concerning disaster risks, noise pollution, and physical mobility issues related to stairs without clear thematic separation. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. These issues reflect Band 5 performance descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, such as 'single-story house', 'tall apartment blocks', and 'rapid growing population'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, including 'residential issue' instead of housing issue, 'responsibility of a single man', and 'natural accidents'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'rapid population growth' and 'peaceful environment', frequent word-choice errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher band score, aligning closely with Band 5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many of the complex attempts are faulty and marred by frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'it leads to require a sufficient amount to establish to these projects' and 'Because they wants to a peaceful environment'. There are persistent errors with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'elder people cannot use... because their physical health condition do not allow them'), missing articles, and awkward prepositions. Although communication is not entirely obscured, the high frequency of errors places this response firmly at Band 5.
