Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is claimed that the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. I completely agree with this statement because if the large cities start to construct separate apartments for every single family, more farmland is required and government might also face different problems while providing services to community.
The biggest advantage of building tall apartment is no vast area of land is required to accommodate every single individual. If large cities start to construct separate building for everyone more and more farmland is required to clear for construction. This is serious concern for those countries which are rely on farming heavily. For example, the population of India has grown over the past twenty years, and now they have to construct high-rise apartments because they are facing shortage of farmland, as it is essential part of economy there.
Another advantage of tall apartment is government allocate only a limited area of land to large cities and by constructing tall apartment cities accommodate every single individual without exceeding the limits of government. Additionally, the authorities take advantage from high-rise apartments, as they do not have to provide services around the city and in way they save the money and time required to provide facilities to everyone. For example, they feel easy at providing electricity, food, deliveries and other basic needs at a centralized place.
To conclude, building tall apartment blocks plays an important role in saving farmland for future and also authorities and businesses take benefit from them. Large cities may also feel comfortable at providing accommodation to everybody without constructing more buildings. Personally, I believe that high-rise buildings are crucial for better future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response clearly addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting a position that completely agrees with the statement. The writer extends and supports main ideas throughout the body paragraphs, such as the preservation of farmland and the efficiency of delivering municipal services in high-rise buildings. For example, the student brings in a relevant and supportive example regarding India to illustrate the pressure on agricultural land. Although some arguments could be explored with even greater depth, the position is well-maintained and clearly supported from the introduction to the conclusion. The task is addressed competently, satisfying the requirements for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving smoothly from the introduction to two body paragraphs focused on different advantages of tall apartments, and finally to a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Additionally', 'For example', and 'To conclude'. However, referencing and transitional links occasionally feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and paragraphing could be varied more fluidly. Overall, the arrangement of ideas is coherent and easy to follow, aligning closely with the Band 6.0 to 6.5 descriptors, earning a solid 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'accommodate', 'infrastructure implications' (implied), and 'centralized place'. However, there are noticeable lexical and collocational inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'government allocate only a limited area', 'they feel easy at providing electricity', and 'take benefit from them'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but word choices lack precision at times. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher band, making Band 6.0 an appropriate score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating the ability to use conditional structures ('if large cities start to construct...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors involving articles, pluralisation, and verb forms (e.g., 'tall apartment' instead of 'tall apartments', 'which are rely on farming', 'government might also face', 'in way they save'). While these errors do not impede overall understanding, they occur consistently enough to restrict the score. The control of grammar is characteristic of Band 6.0, where a mix of structures is offset by recurring inaccuracies.
