Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response presents a general position regarding tall apartment blocks, attempting to discuss both advantages and disadvantages. However, the ideas remain quite superficial and lack sufficient support or development. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the text contains only 224 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. This under-length impacts the overall development of the task. While the candidate attempts to address the prompt by presenting arguments for and against high-rise buildings, the explanation is brief, repetitive, and lacks depth. For instance, the mention of Delhi is underdeveloped and does not clearly illustrate a well-reasoned argument. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a Band 5.0 rating.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction and body paragraphs introduced by transition phrases like 'To commence with' and 'Instiguting further'. However, the overall progression is weak and the second body paragraph feels disjointed and repetitive. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or awkward, such as 'Instiguting further' instead of 'Furthermore' or 'On the other hand'. Referencing is also unclear in places, such as 'i will take a example', and paragraphing is underdeveloped due to the short overall length of the text. Because of the noticeable flaws in logical progression and the mechanical use of cohesive devices, this criterion warrants a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with several spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text. Examples of lexical inaccuracies include 'appartment', 'archeitectures' for architects, 'labours' for labourers, 'enviornment', and 'requiew' for require. While the candidate attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'urbanisation' and 'architecture', the frequent errors in spelling and word formation cause some difficulty for the reader and impede clarity at times. The range of vocabulary is limited to everyday topics related to housing and cities. These factors place the lexical resource firmly at a Band 5.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside poorly constructed complex ones. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'build tall buildings or appartment blocks to provide homes... has many disadvantages', 'it costs very expensive', 'people has started', and 'because of increasing in population'. Subject-verb agreement is frequently violated, and tense consistency is poorly maintained. These errors occur throughout the text and frequently cause difficulty for the reader, matching the official descriptors for a Band 5.0 performance.
