Student answer (Band 5.0)

it is often argued that the best possibile way to prove enough shelter in metropolitan places is to construct tall apartment blocks. i agree to that taller appartments provides more living space. however managing space for individual houses is becoming difficult in modern population.

Apartments provide multipile blocks and each block can have indiviual space to live also it creates good cominuties to live for less budget. not only providing amentites but also provides security. for instance if we can see a 10,000 sqf place and builds an apartment it can provides more homes to society compared to indiviual houses in the same area we can aslo get carparking, swiming, gim, market and small play area. but it can also create a small felling of suffocticated living.

there is a lot of adavantages if we see in individual homes but we cannot accomodate more people in same area. if we want to think about the cities there is a lot of people who will resides for opportunities, education, business and a lot. so if we are having high appartments we can create a space for everyone without blocking and space for traffic and city structure.

Appartment can provide space for nearly 1000 families in 1000 sp.f . but we can build individual house we cannot accomdate that many people.

in my opinion having high rised appartments in growing cities is much appreciated to provide decent house for individuals rather than wasting a lot of space for building indiviual houses for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the main prompt regarding whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities. The student takes a clear position in agreement, noting that tall buildings accommodate more people, save space, and provide amenities. However, the development of ideas remains limited and somewhat repetitive. For example, the argument that individual houses waste space is stated several times without being significantly extended. While the main aspects of the task are covered, the explanation lacks depth and suffers from minor over-generalisation. Therefore, this performance aligns best with Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

Paragraphing is attempted, with the student dividing the response into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently hindered by abrupt transitions and a lack of cohesive devices. Words like 'however', 'also', and 'for instance' are used, but sentences often feel disjointed, such as 'not only providing amentites but also provides security.' The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall structure lacks smooth flow and clear organizational framework, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling mistakes throughout the text (e.g., 'possibile', 'appartments', 'multipile', 'indiviual', 'cominuties', 'amentites', 'swiming', 'gim', 'suffocticated', 'adavantages', 'resides', 'accomdate', 'rised'). The range is limited and minimally adequate for discussing the topic of housing. Although the intended meaning is usually understood despite these lexical and spelling flaws, the high frequency of errors prevents the score from reaching a higher band, making Band 4.5 appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The text contains a mix of simple and emerging complex structures, but grammatical accuracy is very low. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'taller appartments provides', 'it can provides'), missing articles, capitalization errors (e.g., starting sentences with lowercase 'i'), and punctuation flaws. Complex sentences are often faulty or awkward, such as 'if we can see a 10,000 sqf place and builds an apartment it can provides more homes'. These frequent structural and mechanical errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 4.5 descriptor.
