The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Large cities are densly populated hence they need houses to live but building houses for everyone on the ground floor is not possible. Some people think that good way to give sufficient houses in metropolitan cities is to construct tall apartment blocks. I staunchly agree with the above statement but with some extend for which vindication would be elaborated in upcoming paragraph.
To commence with, there are many reasons associated with the favour of constructing tall apartments. The first and foremost is, space saving. To explain, reagular homes take lot of space and it is impossible for us to provide space to everyone as tall buildings build homes on one another which saves a lot of space. For example, a study tells that apartments have saved a lot of space in recent years.
Moving further, another reason is thier modren texture. Most of the tall apartment blocks are freshly made and they are modernized according to our needs from inside. To elaborate, they are designed in a way that they feel like boon to us. Modren life is full of anxiety nowadays.
On the other hand, there are few drawbacks which cannot be ignored. The first is, they are packed tightly which create too much hustle and bustle all around. Moreover, people who live on the top of the building have a headache of going up and down all day in lift during the day. To examplize, in case of medical emergency it gets even worse.
Conclusion, after taking all the aspects in my consideration i would like to emphasize that tall buildings are boon for us in many ways but thier negative side cannot be neglacted.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses the task by stating their position agreeing with the prompt, mentioning benefits such as space-saving and modern amenities, as well as drawbacks like congestion and logistical issues. However, the development of these ideas remains somewhat limited and superficial. For instance, the point regarding space-saving is supported by a vague assertion ("a study tells that apartments have saved a lot of space") rather than concrete examples or thorough elaboration. Furthermore, the phrasing "with some extend for which vindication would be elaborated in upcoming paragraph" contains confused argumentation regarding the extent of agreement. These limitations place the response comfortably within Band 6, where relevant ideas are presented, but some are under-developed or lack robust support.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing advantages and drawbacks, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are utilized to signpost progression, such as "To commence with", "Moving further", and "On the other hand". However, referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or awkward, as seen in the concluding sentence "Conclusion, after taking all the aspects in my consideration...". Paragraphing is generally handled sufficiently, providing a clear overall structure, although the internal flow within paragraphs occasionally feels disjointed due to abrupt shifts in ideas. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor, indicating a coherent overall arrangement with some faulty or mechanical cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to discuss the topic, attempting some less common words and phrases such as "densly populated", "staunchly agree", "vindication", and "hustle and bustle". However, there are notable spelling errors (e.g., "densly", "reagular", "thier", "modren", "neglacted") and instances of imprecise word choice or awkward collocation, such as "have a headache of going up and down". These errors do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the lexical score. The vocabulary is minimally sufficient for the task, fitting the Band 5 to Band 6 threshold, but leaning toward Band 6 given the clear attempt to use functional academic vocabulary despite inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating relative clauses and subordinate clauses (e.g., "Some people think that good way to give sufficient houses... is to construct tall apartment blocks"). However, control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as missing articles ("good way", "top of the building"), punctuation omissions, and tense/agreement slips. While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's ability to grasp the main arguments. Because there is a reasonable mix of structures despite persistent grammatical inaccuracies, this performance corresponds to a Band 6.
