Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities. While a clear position is stated in phrases such as 'I agree with the plan', the ideas are heavily repetitive, under-developed, and lack logical support. Much of the text circles back to basic assertions about population increase and people living easily, rather than exploring reasons, counterarguments, or specific consequences in depth. Relevant examples are absent, and the argument remains limited and tangential in its execution. These shortcomings align closely with the Band 4 descriptors, where the response touches upon the task minimally and lacks sufficient development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The overall organisation of the essay is weak. Although paragraph breaks are attempted, information and ideas are not arranged coherently. Sentences often repeat the same concepts without logical progression, such as the repetitive statements about population growth and difficulties across multiple paragraphs. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, leading to a disjointed reading experience. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of arguments. For instance, phrases like 'Due to increase the population people do not live together' lack clear cohesive ties to surrounding sentences. This performance reflects Band 4 characteristics.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and highly repetitive throughout the text, relying heavily on simple words such as 'people', 'home', 'cities', and 'problem'. There is a lack of flexibility and range, with frequent inappropriate word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'safe the social problem' instead of 'solve social problems' or 'construct a enough home'. Spelling and word-choice errors are pervasive and frequently strain the reader's understanding. While some core vocabulary for the topic is present, it fails to meet the criteria for higher bands due to limited range and recurring inaccuracies, placing it firmly at Band 4.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and frequently faulty sentence structures. There are persistent, major errors in basic grammar, such as missing auxiliary verbs, incorrect tense usage, and flawed clause structures, as seen in 'People build large cities is to build apartment blocks'. Punctuation is largely neglected, and complex structures are either absent or attempt construction that fails completely, resulting in frequent errors that distort meaning. Because errors are frequent across almost every sentence and impede communication significantly, the response corresponds to Band 4.
