Student answer (Band 5.0)

The best way to provide enough homes in large cities to build tall apartment blocks.

I definitely agree due to the reason is that in small cities there are many problems such as small streets no popular shops including super markets. people who come from another city due to the purpose of their work take apartment on rent for living so if the apartment is in small city they face much difficulties such as transport for travel to super market.

It is necessary to provide homes in large cities to make tall apartments the impact is that build tall apartments and give them on rent. This is a buisiness idea for income source. On the other hand i disagree to provide home in small cities because the small cities have many problems as in many small cities there is no source of electricity and sui gas. Nowadays individuals living in small city intstead they also build tall apartments argue that the life in small cities is much difficult as compared to large cities.

Furthermore the best way to provide homes for tall apartments is to build a society in a large city the reason is that there is no concept of air pollution or a propaganda of traffic. The public live in their peace as usual there is no difficulty as society gives security.

in conclusion large cities are in fast track of future as compare to small cities.

so in my opinion provide homes in large cities to make tall apartments is a good idea.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide homes in large cities. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times confusing, shifting abruptly between large and small cities without a clear, coherent line of argumentation. For instance, the writer states 'I definitely agree due to the reason is that in small cities there are many problems', which distracts from the core topic of high-rise buildings in large urban areas. While a position is stated, the arguments regarding business ideas, electricity, and air pollution lack sufficient extension and logical connection to the prompt. Consequently, this performance falls under Band 5, as the task is addressed only partially and ideas remain under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The organizational structure of the essay is weak and lacks clear logical progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences within paragraphs are frequently disjointed, such as the sudden transition from rental business ideas to the lack of electricity in small cities. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic linkers like 'Furthermore' and 'On the other hand' used without precise logical fit. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns and implicit subjects. There is no clear overall progression of ideas from introduction to conclusion, leading to a Band 4.5 rating which rounds to Band 5 based on overall flow and structural limitations.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The writer relies on simple phrasing such as 'provide homes', 'large cities', and 'small cities' repeatedly throughout the text. There are notable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'propaganda of traffic', 'fast track of future', and 'take apartment on rent'. While the meaning can occasionally be discerned through context, the range is limited and minimally adequate at best. These noticeable lexical errors and restricted range place this response firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying primarily on simple sentence structures and faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors that impede comprehension, such as fragment sentences ('The best way to provide enough homes in large cities to build tall apartment blocks.'), missing auxiliary verbs ('there is no popular shops'), and incorrect prepositions or conjunctions ('due to the reason is that'). Punctuation is also neglected, with missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences ('in conclusion', 'so in my opinion'). Because complex structures are frequently faulty and errors cause difficulty for the reader, a Band 4.5 or 5.0 is appropriate, leaning toward Band 5 due to the basic communicative success.
