Student answer (Band 4.5)

The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. i completely agree to this statement because the large cities means the community of people will also be large and in large cities if people will occupy space separately the then it may rise a problem like the other won't be able to get the enough space to stay, just for example there is one company 200*200sqmtr also have the parking in its basement There are 20 people who is working in the company and all the twenty people brings there own vehicle which they park in the parking , so basically the problem may occur like the the employees who are coming early get the space to park there car in the parking and rest of all don't get the space to park there cars. In solution if we add one extra floor for parking then everyone will get the space to park there cars. similarly in large cities building apartment block is better ideas then having own tenement

The Apartment blocks in large cities are very useful because lets suppose there are 10 houses in 1 plot in 10 houses there are 10 family who is living there and if we build the apartment block of 20 floors in the same plot then more than 10 families can live there in same space

I personally like to stay in apartment blocks in apartment blocks kitchen, hall room, and bedroom are in same floor so you do not need to do up and down unnecessarily for things its great for our elderly parents also.

In conclusion, the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance agreeing with the statement that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. However, the development of ideas is limited and relies heavily on a somewhat disjointed parking analogy rather than focusing primarily on urban housing economics or spatial efficiency. Key arguments such as space-saving are introduced but remain under-developed, meaning the response sits comfortably within Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text lacks proper paragraphing, as the body of the essay is presented as a single massive block of text, aside from a couple of very brief lines. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and occasionally inaccurate, leading to a mechanical feel. Sentences run together without punctuation boundaries, making it difficult to follow the logical progression of ideas. This performance aligns with the Band 4.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent use of simple terms like 'large cities', 'space', and 'apartment block'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'have their own tenement' and 'do up and down unnecessarily'. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, resulting in a Band 4.5 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly coordinated run-on sentences connected by conjunctions like 'so' and 'and'. There are frequent errors in punctuation and capitalization, such as lowercase 'i' and missing periods at sentence endings. While meaning can mostly be deciphered, the frequency of errors places this response at Band 4.0.
