Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether building tall apartment blocks is the best solution for housing in large cities. The writer presents a stance that supports tall apartment blocks to accommodate growing populations and preserve childhood memories. However, the ideas are often underdeveloped, repetitive, and lack clear progression. For instance, points regarding natural disasters or building safety are introduced abruptly without sufficient elaboration or connection to the main argument. The position is discernible in places, but overall development is limited, which aligns with the requirements for a Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response shows some basic organisation with paragraph breaks, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or used inaccurately, as seen in phrases like 'To begin with the apartments if should make this king of tall building ,there are some problem'. Referencing is frequently unclear, and sentences often run together without logical transitions, making the text difficult to follow at times. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph coherence is weak. These features place the response firmly at Band 4.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors that strain the reader's understanding. Examples include 'king of land', 'peoples loss there life', and 'build quality product'. While the student attempts to use some less common words like 'population', 'natural disaster', and 'penthouse', inaccurate word forms and collocations are prevalent throughout the text. Spelling errors also occur ('there' instead of 'their'). This meets the descriptors for Band 4.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting predominantly of faulty attempts at complex structures. There are frequent, heavy errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure, such as 'It seem this to providing the more houses' and 'If the approved this king of project that maybe help a large amount of peoples.' Punctuation and phrasing errors are pervasive and frequently distort the intended meaning, which corresponds to a Band 4 performance.
