Student answer (Band 6.0)
The better way for granting adequate homes in large towns is building big blocks of flat. Although there are several drawbacks of this viewpoint, I believe in its agreement because of meeting growing housing demands and saves valuable land.
One of the major reason for my approval is meeting growing housing demands. This is due to fact that building tall apartment blocks can save valuable land because a large number of families can live in one building, allowing the remaining land to be used for essential public facilities. For example, building hospitals and schools can take place instead of building houses on that land. Therefore, constructing high-rise apartments can help cities provide sufficient housing for their growing populations.
Another major reason for my agreement is saves valuable land. To elaborate, tall appartment blocks use vertical space instead of spreading houses across a large area. For instance, in densely populated cities such as Mumbai, high-rise apartment buildings allow thousands of people to live in a small area, reducing the amount of land needed for housing. Thus, many families can live in one building while occupying a relatively small amount of land .
To conclude, I strongly agree that constructing tall apartment blocks is an effective solution to the housing shortage in large cities. These buildings can accomodate more residents while using less land, which can be preserved for parks, schools and other public facilities. Therefore, high-rise housing can help cities manage population growth and make better use of limited urban space.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the statement, supported by relevant ideas regarding housing demands and land preservation. The writer attempts to extend their ideas by mentioning Mumbai as an example and discussing public facilities like hospitals and schools. However, there is a notable redundancy in the body paragraphs, where the second and third body paragraphs largely repeat the same core argument regarding saving valuable land. For instance, the second paragraph states that building tall blocks 'can save valuable land' and the third paragraph is explicitly dedicated to the reason that it 'saves valuable land.' Consequently, while the position is clear, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive rather than fully elaborated with distinct supporting points, placing this criterion at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised adequately, with distinct body paragraphs addressing specific arguments. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Although', 'One of the major reason', and 'To conclude'. However, there are instances of faulty referencing and mechanical cohesion. For example, the phrase 'One of the major reason' contains a grammatical agreement error, and the progression between sentences sometimes feels repetitive due to the overlapping arguments in the body paragraphs. Additionally, the transition words do not always weave the ideas smoothly, leading to a somewhat formulaic feel. Nevertheless, the underlying logical organisation is clear, supporting an overall Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'adequately', 'densely populated', 'population growth', and 'sufficient housing'. However, there are several lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text. For instance, the opening sentence uses 'granting adequate homes' instead of 'providing', and refers to 'big blocks of flat' instead of 'flats' or 'apartment blocks'. There is also a spelling error with 'appartment' in the third paragraph and 'accomodate' in the conclusion. While these vocabulary errors and typos do not impede communication, they demonstrate limited precision and control, aligning the response with Band 6.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including concessive clauses ('Although there are several drawbacks...') and relative clauses. There are, however, frequent grammatical errors and awkward structures. In the first paragraph, 'The better way' should be 'The best way', and 'saves valuable land' should be parallel in form ('saving valuable land'). Furthermore, subject-verb agreement issues appear, such as 'One of the major reason', and prepositional inaccuracies like 'believe in its agreement'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but spacing errors occur before punctuation marks in a couple of instances. Because the complex structures are often accompanied by noticeable errors that persist throughout the text, this performance fits Band 5.5.
