Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's rapidly growing world, facilitating adequate resources to the rising number of individuals has become a concern for governing bodies across the globe. However, it is estimated that the most convenient approach for ensuring ample number of residences for people in metropolitans is to enact high-rise apartments. Although, it eliminates an exclusive access to land as well as the terrace, I agree with the statement on a major extent as it not only is economical, but also accommodates a significant number of people at the same time.

To commence with the underlying forces to agree, residential buildings standing tall are cheaper as compared to a private bungalow. Hence, it can be an option that can be accessed by people of various financial backgrounds. For instance, there are flats suitable to every budget group in cities.

Adding further to the reasons, as compared to extravagant personal dwelling settings, apartments can provide a home for a number of families within the same territory. Moreover, it saves a lot of space. By this way, it slows down the transformation of the urban colonies into concrete jungle. To cite an example, residencies standing tall in a building fulfills the requirement to facilitate many dwellers. Hence, it makes sure that development does not take up more space.

Whereas the cause for disagreement, is that a person can not enjoy the sole proprietorship of the terrain and the roof. Furthermore, following the same reason, prior permissions are essential to make any major transformtions. To exemplify, the owner requires an NOC from the secretary in order to carry out repair works in their house, which can hinder other residents.

In conclusion, while tall building apartments does not provide land and gallery ownership, the positive traits like being cost friendly and the caliber to provide homes to several groups on the same land, is why I affirm the statement to a great extent.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a clear and well-supported position that tall apartment blocks are the best solution for housing in large cities. The writer presents relevant arguments, such as affordability, space-saving benefits, and the ability to accommodate many families, while also acknowledging counterarguments regarding privacy and lack of terrain ownership. However, some ideas feel slightly repetitive or under-developed, particularly the supporting examples like 'there are flats suitable to every budget group in cities', which lack specific detail. Despite these minor limitations, the main position is sustained throughout the essay, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0, and ultimately balancing the arguments appropriately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs supporting different viewpoints, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as economic benefits, space-saving, and counterarguments. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'To cite an example'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in phrases like 'To begin with the underlying forces to agree' or 'Whereas the cause for disagreement, is that...', which sound slightly unnatural and disrupt the smooth flow of the text. Overall, the logical organization is clear, securing a solid Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'governing bodies', 'metropolitans', 'extravagant personal dwelling settings', and 'sole proprietorship'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'enact high-rise apartments' instead of 'build' or 'construct', 'on a major extent' instead of 'to a large extent', and 'transformtions' (spelling error). While these lexical errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the response from achieving a higher band. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer utilizes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'Although it eliminates an exclusive access to land as well as the terrace, I agree with the statement...'. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, including article misuse ('facilitating adequate resources to the rising number'), preposition errors ('on a major extent'), and awkward phrasing ('residencies standing tall in a building fulfills', which has a subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while errors are frequent enough to cause occasional distraction, they rarely impede overall understanding.
