Student answer (Band 6.0)
Rapid population growth and urbanisation have created a significant demand for housing in many large cities. Some people believe that constructing tall apartment buildings is the best solution to this problem. I partly agree with this view because high rise apartments accomodate many people in one place, although other housing option also necessary.
The foremost reason for building high rise apartments is that, it is an efficient way to use limited land in major cities. In major cities as the population increases, the demand for housing also rises. Tall apartments require limited land and offers houses to many people because of that countryside areas are preserved. For instance, many cities like singapore built many high rise buildings to accommodate increasing population.
Furthermore, if the apartments build near the schools, workplace and public transport, then this will reduce the time require for commuting and consequently decrease the traffic congetion and pollution. Apartment blocks build near to facilities like public parks, malls and supermarkets then people use these facilities conveniently.
However, tall apartments accommodate large number of people in one roof, which would leads to noise pollution and affects the privacy. Apart from that, building high rise building is expensive and it would costly to buy. So, people from lower background families can not buy these buildings. As a result, government have to build other small buildings and small houses like tenements.
To sum up, although high rise apartments are expensive, leads to overcrowding and noise pollution, it is an efficient way to use limited land and offers houses to many people. Nevertheless, government also have to invest in small buildings and tenements.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position that the writer partly agrees with the statement. The main ideas, such as efficient land use and proximity to facilities, are relevant and extended with examples like Singapore. However, some arguments lack full development, particularly regarding counter-arguments and social implications, which occasionally lean towards over-generalisation. The conclusion accurately summarises the stance, balancing the pros and cons of high-rise living against the need for alternative housing options. Overall, the performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors because it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some areas remain slightly under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an attempt at logical organisation. Paragraphing is utilised, although some paragraph breaks could be better managed, such as grouping related points about drawbacks. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'As a result', but referencing and linking are occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive. While the logical progression is generally discernible, cohesion can be faulty in places, fitting comfortably within the Band 6 profile for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'urbanisation', 'population growth', and 'efficient way'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but these are accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'lower background families' instead of 'low-income families' or 'families from lower-income backgrounds'. Spelling errors are minimal, but lexical control is inconsistent. Because the vocabulary range is sufficient to communicate the message despite some inaccuracies and awkward collocations, a Band 6 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the response, such as 'accomodate' (spelling/form), 'if the apartments build' (passive voice error), 'time require' (participle error), and comma splices like 'tall apartments require limited land and offers houses...' despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the reader can easily follow the arguments. This blend of a mixed structure with frequent non-systematic errors places the grammar squarely at Band 6.
