Student answer (Band 5.5)

In larger cities population is rising day by day , some people think by building tall apartment blocks can solve the housing problem in the large cities and i totally agree with this statement . In cities building large apartments on one land provide enough housing rather than to build a single house for one family .

In urban areas population is rising day by day due to immigrants and people who came to cities in search of jobs . Cities are expanding rapidly becuse of rising population and it creats housing problem due to limitation of land present in cities . For example in mumbai their is tall apartments blocks on a single land wheare almost 200 people live easily and provide enough homes for many families . So construct tall apartment allow many resident to live without requiring large amount of land .

However building tall apartments blocks can solve the problem of affordability . In cities land prices are very high due to the shortage so not everyone can afford to buy land and build a house . For example in cities like banglore the property price are too much not everyone can afford it but majority of people live in small 1 BHK apartment beacuse they can afford the rent of the apartment . So build tall residential building allow people to live on rent wich is affordable for majority of public and it provide enough homes in affordable way .

In conclusion , building tall residential blocks is effective way to provide housing in large cities where land is scarce .

and also allow people to live with monthly rent wich is affordable for majority of citizen .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position that they totally agree with the statement that tall apartment blocks are the best solution for housing in large cities. Main ideas are presented, such as land conservation and affordability, and supported with examples from major cities like Mumbai and Bangalore. However, the development of ideas tends to be slightly repetitive and somewhat limited in depth. While the position is clear throughout and the prompt is answered, the arguments would benefit from greater elaboration and more sophisticated reasoning to reach a higher band. Overall, the response meets the core requirements of Task Achievement at a Band 6.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct arguments regarding land usage and affordability. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or faulty, such as the abrupt transition in the final paragraph starting with 'and also allow people', which disrupts the flow of the sentence. Referencing and logical progression between sentences can occasionally be repetitive or unclear, as seen in the repetition of ideas about population rise and job seekers. These issues place the response firmly at Band 6.0 for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'population', 'urban areas', 'immigrants', 'property price', and 'residential building'. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is often accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'on one land' instead of 'on a single plot of land', 'create housing problem', and 'majority of public'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'becuse', 'creat_s_', 'wheare', 'banglore', and 'wich'. These lexical and spelling errors do not impede overall communication, reflecting the characteristics of a Band 5.5 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions throughout the text. Examples include 'In larger cities population is rising day by day , some people think by building tall apartment blocks can solve', 'their is tall apartments blocks', 'So construct tall apartment allow', and 'property price are too much'. Punctuation is also flawed, with inconsistent spacing before commas and periods. Due to the frequency of errors that occasionally cause strain for the reader, the grammar score is Band 5.0.
