Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.5
The response fails to fully address the prompt regarding whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities. Instead of discussing the advantages or disadvantages of high-rise buildings, the student pivots entirely into an organizational plan for Pakistan involving heads of departments, sub-departments, and hiring processes. Furthermore, the length requirement was not met, as the response contains only 226 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. The position is unclear and the main task is largely misunderstood, resulting in severely underdeveloped ideas regarding the prompt topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text demonstrates a very limited degree of organisation and paragraphing, starting with fragmented single-sentence paragraphs and isolated thoughts. While some basic cohesive devices are attempted such as 'Firstly' and 'In conclusion', the logical progression of ideas breaks down quickly because the content shifts unexpectedly into administrative bureaucracy rather than addressing the prompt. Referencing is often unclear, such as 'that person' or 'there', making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. Overall, the structural coherence is weak and fails to present a unified, logical argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The student frequently misuses words and collocations, such as 'need a research throughly', 'create a head of department', and 'embezzlement for that person'. Spelling and word-choice errors are pervasive throughout the text, including 'everthing' and 'provice'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey fragments of meaning, the frequent errors and restricted range significantly impede smooth reading, placing the lexical performance at a low band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple sentence structures and repetitive clauses that often contain structural faults. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and preposition usage, such as 'If i am providing enough homes', 'Head of department will create there sub departments', and 'check every of record'. Punctuation is also erratic. These errors are frequent and often cause severe difficulty for the reader in deciphering the intended meaning, reflecting very limited control over basic grammar.
