Student answer (Band 6.0)
This essay argues for providing enough accommodation in large cities by building tall apartment blocks to cope with the housing challenges in large cities. Indeed, providing enough accommodation is one of the biggest challenges. This problem is universal around the globe, and most of the cities are struggling to solve this issue. However, tall apartments are not the only solution to this problem, as this can lead to unwanted consequences as well.
The idea of building tall apartment blocks is somthing, most of the countries are working on. It seems that building this kind of infrastructure can help to ease the housing issue. Supporters of this idea believe that tall apartments have many advantages, like they will take up less space and can accommodate more residents under one roof. From a financial perspective, it is cost efficient plan that aims to support the better economy of any country.
However, there are certain risk factors associated with tall buildings. In case of any natural calamity like an earthquake, such buildings do not offer a quick plan so people can exit on time. During fire, there are no or limited numbres of emergency exit which can pose a serious life risk. Other ther there are several health issues that residents of tall buildings can have due to poor ventilation systems and less interaction to nature. Then there are infrastructural problems that come with tall buildings for example if drainage system is not working for one floor the rest of the building is more likely to suffer.
I believe that there should be a balanced view to solve the housing problem. Tall buildings can be constructed, but there should be proper management and all safety measures should be consider. Hosung societies with small but ventilated homes can also be built to solve the issue.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities. The writer acknowledges both sides of the argument, stating that while tall buildings can accommodate more residents efficiently, they also carry risks such as safety hazards during emergencies and infrastructural challenges. The main ideas are generally well developed, although the body paragraphs could be slightly more extended with specific real-world examples rather than broad generalisations. For instance, the paragraph discussing safety risks touches on earthquakes and fires, which supports the overall stance effectively. The position remains clear throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear overall progression and logical organisation. Information and ideas are divided into appropriate paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs exploring different perspectives, and a concluding stance. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'However', 'Supporters of this idea', and 'For example', though referencing is occasionally a bit mechanical ('Then there are infrastructural problems...'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to guide the reader through the distinct arguments. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'infrastructural', 'calamity', and 'ventilation systems'. However, there are notable spelling errors and typos throughout the response, including 'somthing' for something, 'numbride' or 'numbres' for numbers, 'ther other' instead of 'other than', and 'Hosung' for Housing. Word choice is generally clear enough to convey meaning without impeding communication, but these mechanical slips prevent the lexical score from reaching the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional clauses ('In case of any natural calamity...') and relative clauses. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as missing articles ('during fire'), punctuation errors in compound sentences, and awkward phrasing ('less interaction to nature'). However, these errors do not impede communication, and the basic meaning remains clear throughout. A greater variety of error-free complex sentences and closer attention to punctuation would be required for a higher band.
