Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities, and the writer clearly states a disagreement. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments provided focus on environmental concerns such as deforestation, air quality, and the consumption of resources, but these points are underdeveloped and somewhat confused in the conclusion where the writer partially contradicts their stance by mentioning planting trees and building in the outskirts. Furthermore, there are several run-on sentences and sweeping generalisations. While the writer presents a clear position throughout, the extension and support of ideas remain basic, corresponding to the Band 5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The text demonstrates some organisation, but overall progression is hindered by frequent punctuation errors, lack of proper sentence boundaries, and messy paragraphing. Sentences run into one another without adequate transitional markers or periods, making it difficult to follow the logical flow. For instance, the opening paragraph consists of a single lengthy, unpunctuated run-on sentence. Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes inaccurately, such as the abrupt transitions using 'for greater opportunities, poeple are moving' and 'But, i strongly disagree'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of each paragraph lacks clear logical sequencing, resulting in an overall arrangement that falls into the Band 4 to Band 5 range.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing words like 'population', 'homes', 'cities', and 'constructiong'. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the response, including 'poeple', 'incresaing', 'constructiong', 'immgriants', 'effect' (used instead of affect), 'neigbour', 'electricuity', 'biuld', 'tresses', 'treses', 'qualty', 'chanadigarh', 'peron', and 'bapartmets'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, but spelling mistakes and repetitive word choices cause noticeable difficulty and strain for the reader, aligning closely with Band 4 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The writing exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences joined incorrectly by commas or coordinating conjunctions. Complex structures are attempted, but they are consistently faulty, often resulting in long, unpunctuated run-on sentences that lack proper subject-verb agreement and punctuation control. Errors are very frequent throughout the text, including lowercase starting letters for sentences, missing periods, and incorrect word forms. These persistent errors frequently impede communication and cause difficulty for the reader, placing the response firmly in the Band 4 category for grammatical accuracy.
