Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that tall apartment blocks are the optimal way to provide homes in big cities. The student provides three main arguments: land acquisition, environmental preservation, and affordability. However, the development of these ideas is hindered by overly repetitive phrasing, heavily formulaic meta-language such as 'As these points require a Prudent elaboration, Let us delve deeper into them', and unconvincing or fabricated supporting examples, such as citing articles by prominent journalists with generic or unverifiable dates. While all parts of the task are addressed, the over-reliance on memorized transition templates rather than substantive, logical argumentation limits the score to a Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion, demonstrating an awareness of paragraphing structure. However, logical progression is severely disrupted by mechanical and unnatural cohesive devices, such as 'To explain, people can buy Apartment easily' and fragmented sentences like 'environmental preservation and. it can be a budget friendly'. The referencing is frequently unclear, and transitional phrases are overused and clumsily integrated. For instance, the transition 'To substantiate, People can easily live in the tall Apartment blocks' fails to logically link the premise to the evidence. Cohesion is faulty throughout, placing this response firmly in the Band 5 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and frequently inappropriate for an academic essay. The student relies on basic and repetitive vocabulary, writing 'huge big Cities' and phrases like 'budget friendly' multiple times. There are frequent word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'accquire a Small piece of land', 'get save', 'get escape', and 'were easily got'. Attempts at more advanced vocabulary result in awkward or incorrect usage, such as 'vehemently espouse the to build' and 'optimaly way'. Due to the noticeable errors in word formation and collocation that cause some difficulty for the reader, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are consistently marred by severe errors. There are widespread issues with subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and punctuation, such as 'Tall Apartment Blocks were build on the small piece of land' and 'lot of people were moving to cities and to provide them infrastructure for living is becoming difficulty'. Run-on sentences, dangling modifiers, and fragmented clauses ('As a consequences') are common. The high frequency of basic grammatical errors impedes comprehension in several places, corresponding to a Band 4.5.
