Student answer (Band 4.5)

There are certain ways in order to improve the homes for people in large cities. Many of them are very practical while the others may make some difficulties for the people living there.

As given in the topic of the creation of the tall apartment blocks so that many people could get there homes to live. This idea is also good and also a practical one as it solves the problem of the homelessness. In my opinion I do agree with the idea of creation of tall apartment buildings as if it contains 30 floors with 2 or 3 apartments in each floor so it would be a gamechanging home production for about 100 familes.

As it has the positive impacts it also has negative impacts. The negative side includes the over population in the buliding. The greater would be the number of people the shorter or lesser would be the facilities. It may contain various types of problems in Healthcare, food production etc.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide homes in large cities. The writer presents a clear position agreeing with the prompt and briefly touches upon both positive and negative impacts, such as solving homelessness versus causing overpopulation and strain on healthcare and food production. However, the ideas remain underdeveloped and lack specific supporting examples. Furthermore, a major limitation is the word count: the student's response contains only 164 words, falling significantly short of the 250-word minimum requirement. This under-length severely restricts the writer's ability to fully develop the task, resulting in a penalty under Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into three short paragraphs, attempting an introduction, a body paragraph supporting the prompt, and a counter-argument paragraph. However, the overall progression is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used rather mechanically and awkwardly, such as 'As given in the topic of the creation' and 'As it has the positive impacts it also has negative impacts'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs are extremely brief and lack internal logical development and clear referencing. Overall, the structural flow is basic and demonstrates limited control over organizational features.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and at times unnatural. Examples include phrases like 'creation of the tall apartment blocks', 'gamechanging home production', and 'over population in the buliding'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'gamechanging' and 'practical', but word choices and collocations are frequently imprecise or awkward. There are also spelling errors like 'buliding' instead of 'building'. The lexical range is minimally adequate for expressing simple thoughts, but frequent inaccuracies constrain the communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside flawed attempts at complex ones. There are numerous grammatical errors and awkward phrasing throughout the text, such as 'There are certain ways in order to improve', 'so that many people could get there homes to live' (possessive error with 'their'), and 'The greater would be the number of people the shorter or lesser would be the facilities'. Punctuation is generally basic, and the high frequency of errors causes noticeable difficulty for the reader in places.
