Student answer (Band 5.5)

To provide sufficient houses in large cities, there is only a best way to build tall apartment blocks.I strongly agree with this statement because there is no other better option regarding to this situation which is increasing day by day in this modren era.

There are too much population in the city because developed cities provide many facilities to local people, that's why people preffered to stay in big cities. When the people of other cities or from backward areas move to cities there would be difficulty for management to handle this situation. People who migrated from other places to city do not have their own land in city so that they can not built their own houses then they have to stay in rental houses or apartments.

As the city itself do not have sufficient space for the construction of too much residences,so the builders find only a solution of constructing tall apartment blocks to tackle this phenomena. There are many tall buildings are in our country's big cities which are suitable for newly shifted people.

For example many people which are government servents or other jobholders move to cities when they have their job in city and obviously their families also move there but they can not buy their own house or construct their own building, so apartments are the best option for them. Housing societies also provide many benefits to the residentials such as , lift and soundproof rooms. There is no other track to face this problem so i think apartment blocks are very suitable for people who are living in cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance agreeing with the statement that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities. The ideas are relevant and generally support the position, touching upon urban migration, space constraints, and benefits for jobholders. However, some arguments lack full development, as seen in the slightly repetitive explanations about people moving to cities and lacking land. The response tends to over-generalise by claiming there is 'no other better option' or 'no other track'. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, placing it firmly in the Band 6 category.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a distinct introduction and supporting body paragraphs. Paragraphing is attempted, though the body paragraphs are quite dense and could be broken down further to improve visual organisation. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'that's why', 'As the city itself', and 'For example', but referencing is sometimes faulty, and transitions feel slightly mechanical in places. For instance, sentences within the second paragraph run together without smooth logical transitions. Progression is present, but the overall flow can be disjointed, which aligns with the Band 5.5 to 6 descriptor range.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'sufficient houses', 'migrated', 'construction', and 'government servents'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'modren era' (spelling), 'too much population' (instead of 'too large a population' or 'high population density'), 'preffered' (spelling), and 'built' instead of 'build'. Less common lexical items are attempted with some inaccuracy. While communication is not impeded, the frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'because', 'when', and 'who'. However, control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('in city', 'in big cities'), subject-verb agreement issues ('There are too much population'), and awkward phrasing ('so that they can not built their own houses'). Punctuation errors also occur, such as missing spaces after periods and commas (e.g., 'blocks.I strongly' and 'such as , lift'). These errors occasionally cause slight hesitation for the reader, fitting the profile for Band 5.0.
