Student answer (Band 6.0)
Now-a-days, the population is growing at a rapid rate which also increases the demand of housing in large cities. One of the best solution is to build the tall residental buildings allowing many families to stay comfortably. To a major extent, I agree that building tall apartments is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities, as vertical housing saves a more space.
The primary reason for constructing vertically is that it can hold 100 or more families on a limited plot of land that would otherwise allows a very fewer families to build home. Instead of allowing 10 people to build 10 separate houses on individual plots of land which consumes massive amounts of horizontal space, developing a single apartment complex can easily provide houses for all 10 families on just one of those plots. In addition, when developers build a single apartment complex instead of separate houses, they save money on materials in several ways such as shared foundation rood, wall and centralized pipeing and wiring.
Furthermore, buying construction material in a large quantity for single major project allows builder to get a huge discount. These massive savings on materials allow developers to lower their overall investment on the houses. This makes it possible to give some offeres to buyers which can save buyers money, making city housing much more affordable
In conclusion, I competely agree that constructing tall apartment blocks is the most effective way to address the problem of housing shortage in the major cities. Building vertically maximizes limited land by accommodating multiple families on a single plot, which leaves space available for public infrastructure

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on the given statement and maintaining that stance throughout the essay. The writer's main argument—that vertical housing is the most effective solution due to land conservation and economic efficiency—is well-supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as comparing a 10-family plot to a single multi-family apartment complex. The ideas are extended effectively, discussing not only spatial advantages but also material cost savings and affordability for buyers. While the scope of the discussion could have touched on potential drawbacks for a more nuanced view, the requirements for a Band 7 are fully met as the position is clear and the main ideas are well-supported and extended.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with an introduction that outlines the writer's stance, moving into spatial and material benefits in the body paragraphs, and concluding with a concise summary. Cohesive devices are used adequately and appropriately, with phrases like 'The primary reason', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' helping to guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and logically. However, minor referencing issues and slightly mechanical transitions prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the logical structure remains clear and easy to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'residential buildings', 'vertical housing', 'centralized piping', and 'infrastructure'. Meaning is conveyed clearly despite some noticeable word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'Now-a-days', 'solution' instead of 'solutions', 'resental', 'a more space', 'rood' instead of 'roof', 'pipeing', 'offeres', and 'competely'. These minor slips do not impede communication. The writer shows a sufficient vocabulary range to discuss urban housing topics, which aligns well with the descriptors for Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating the ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as 'Instead of allowing 10 people to build 10 separate houses on individual plots of land which consumes massive amounts of horizontal space, developing a single apartment complex can easily provide houses...' There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('that would otherwise allows') and missing articles ('allows builder', 'lower their overall investment'). However, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout the response, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
