Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that the best solution of housing people in wide cities is to build tall buildings blocks. I completely agree whith this view because it reduces the negative impact on the green surfaces and it lets the palce to build benefit buildings.

One of the main reasons why I agree is that build tall apartement blocks will reduce the need of cutting green spaces. This is because the large number of people in cities demande a lot of houses, which that mean the need to touch green spaces, and tall buildings is an effective solution for this problem. For example, in France government decided to build tall apartment instead of the small blocks, and put more green spaces which prevent them from the exces of polotion and provide a fresh air. Therefore, population benefits in two things they have where to live and where they can have leisure.

Another important reason is that government will have more place to build it services buildings. In another words, by having more space government can invest in building banks, airports and other thing that it can have benefit from in. For instance, Japane has a small surface but by building a tall apartmant blocks it gained the place where it build their economic buildings. Therefore, it considered as an economic strength in the world looking for it small surface.

In conclusion, I believe that build tall apartment blocks provide several benefits to the societies and governments and also prevent them from environment and economic obstacles.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt directly by expressing a clear and fully developed position in agreement with the statement. The writer introduces two distinct arguments to support this stance: the preservation of green spaces and the creation of land for essential public and economic services. Throughout the essay, these ideas are supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as the mention of urban planning in France and Japan. Although the examples are generalised rather than deeply detailed, they effectively illustrate the main points and extend the arguments adequately. The position remains consistent throughout the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. While further depth in the examples could elevate the task response further, all parts of the prompt are addressed competently, aligning well with the expectations of a Band 6.5 to 7.0 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear structure that includes an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as environmental preservation versus economic infrastructure. Logical progression is generally maintained; however, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, as seen with phrases like 'Another important reason is that' and 'Therefore'. Additionally, referencing and linking phrases occasionally lack precision, such as 'In another words' instead of 'In other words'. Despite these occasional lapses in cohesion, the flow of ideas is easy to follow, and the underlying logic of the arguments remains intact, satisfying the criteria for a solid Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'negative impact', 'leisure', and 'economic strength'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and spelling throughout the essay. Examples of errors include 'solution of housing' instead of 'solution for housing', 'wide cities' instead of 'large cities', 'whith', 'apartement', 'demande', 'polotion', 'place' instead of 'space', and 'Japane'. While these lexical errors occur with some frequency and occasionally distract the reader, they do not impede overall communication. The vocabulary control is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, which places this performance firmly at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-like structures such as 'One of the main reasons why I agree is that...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in verb patterns, articles, and prepositions. Examples include 'build tall apartement blocks will reduce' (instead of 'building'), 'which that mean', 'in France government' (missing article), 'instead of the small blocks', 'prevent them from the exces', and 'where it build their economic buildings' (subject-verb agreement and pronoun reference issues). These errors occur across both simple and complex structures and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Because the control over grammar is somewhat inconsistent, the response fits the Band 5 descriptor.
