Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many people think that homes in the apartment are good way to consume the space and profit in tall buildings so they agree with this statement. While some people often argued that buying apartments in tall buildings are waste of money. But, I believe that it is beneficial for our society. So,I agree with this statment.

To begin,in tall buildings an architect can design enough homes with modern ideas for the people who live alone.A home can consume less space than ground. In large cities there are also issues of area and space because of overpopulation. As if we build home in tall building,it can be helpul for the people who have low budget and also for families with only 2 members. So they can adjust in that area.Meanwhile, if we talk about the rent of these homes also not very high as compared to other homes which are on ground.

On the other hand, the downside of living in apartments is also very dangerous especially in Pakistan, because the environment of apartments is not very good. Most young people prefer to live in apartments with their friends. So its not a very family oriented area to live in.The added stress to family can place severe strain on any family. That is why they disagree with this idea.

In my opinion,I totally go with this statement because living in apartment makes a person mentally independent and confident. It is very good thought to live in that type of area Government should definitily provide that type of housing schemes for the medium class people so that they can buy their own home with installments systems

To sum up,we should definatily live in apartments and it is very beneficial to provide that type of idea of tall building homes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that tall apartment blocks are beneficial for society. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. While the writer touches on efficient space consumption and lower budgets for small families, the arguments are brief and lack fully extended supporting examples. Furthermore, the counter-argument regarding the environment in Pakistan introduces a localized and somewhat disconnected perspective on young people and family stress rather than focusing broadly on urban housing dynamics. Although all parts of the task are addressed, the overall depth of exploration aligns with a Band 5.0 level, where ideas are somewhat under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into distinct paragraphs, attempting a traditional introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. There are noticeable punctuation and spacing errors throughout the text, such as missing spaces after commas and periods (e.g., 'To begin,in tall buildings', 'statement. While some'). Transitional phrases like 'To begin', 'On the other hand', and 'To sum up' are used, but referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical progression between sentences feels disjointed. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentence boundaries are frequently blurred due to punctuation issues. These features place the response firmly at a Band 5.0 for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary to express basic ideas related to housing and cities, such as 'overpopulation', 'budget', and 'rent'. However, there are noticeable word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'consume the space' instead of 'utilize space' and 'medium class people' instead of 'middle-class citizens'. Repetition of basic terms like 'homes', 'apartments', and 'living' occurs frequently. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing cause some difficulty for the reader, matching the requirements of a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative clauses ('for the people who live alone', 'if we build home in tall building'). However, the control of grammar and punctuation is weak, with frequent errors including missing articles, subject-verb agreement issues ('homes in the apartment are good way', 'rent of these homes also not very high'), and incorrect tense or modal usage ('it can be helpul'). Punctuation errors are pervasive throughout the text. Because complex structures are frequently faulty and errors cause some difficulty, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
