In this technological world, there are many villages around the world where prople do not have access to basic necessities of life. Consequently, people, in order to get benefit from basic services, are moving to cities. Therefore, urbanization is at its peak across the world. To accommodate such people, the best way is to build tall apartment blocks. In the following paragraphs, it will be discussed why building tall apartment blocks in large cities is the best strategy to accommodate people.

To begin with, apartments contain less land; therefore, more people can be facilitated there. This strategy can be useful in avoiding overcrowdness. Hong kong is a case in point where people live in apartments instead of canal house that take a lot of space.

Furthermore, in cities, pollution is a major problem. To tackle this issue, governments around the world campaigning about green belts in cities. By building tall apartments, more spaces can be created for green belts.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities. The writer introduces relevant ideas supporting this stance, such as space efficiency, reducing overcrowding, creating green belts, and mitigating traffic congestion. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and uneven. For instance, the transition into traffic issues and urban flooding lacks strong, direct logical ties back to the housing density argument, resulting in a slightly tangential expansion in places. Nevertheless, a clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The descriptors for Band 6 fit well here, as all parts of the task are addressed, but certain arguments remain under-developed or require stronger supporting elaboration.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, alongside distinct body paragraphs. Logical progression is attempted using basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally'. However, referencing and paragraph transitions are occasionally faulty or mechanical. For example, the sentence 'Going ahead, unplanned houses in cities actually cause damage...' creates a jarring transition that disrupts the flow of the argument. Paragraphing is used, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs sometimes relies on abrupt shifts rather than smooth semantic linking. These limitations align closely with the Band 6 descriptor, where the text remains coherent overall but cohesion features mechanical or inaccurate elements.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and topic-specific terms like 'urbanization', 'pragmatic', and 'green belts'. However, there are noticeable word-choice inaccuracies, awkward collocations, and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'prople' for people, 'overcrowdness' for overcrowding, 'canal house', and 'due the' instead of 'due to the'. While these lexical errors do not seriously impede communication because the intended meaning remains understandable, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. This performance corresponds well to the Band 6 descriptor, which highlights an adequate vocabulary range with some inaccurate word choices and spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses and participial phrases, for example, 'By building tall apartments, more spaces can be created...' However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly missing articles, preposition misusages ('campaigning about green belts'), and minor subject-verb or spelling lapses. Despite these inaccuracies, the errors rarely impede communication, and the basic meaning is clearly conveyed. Because the writer combines attempts at complex structures with persistent grammatical errors that do not block understanding, the writing comfortably meets the criteria for Band 6.
