Student answer (Band 5.5)

Due to growing population of large Metropolitian cities it has become a difficult task for authority to give them porper space for living. One best solution is to construct tall apartment building . I largely agree with this statement because by constructing tall appartments we can accommodate large number of people in significant amount of space and moreover there is no over exploitation of land and people will be able to live closer to city's center rather than living in outskirts.

One major advantage of constructing tall appartment is that in samll amount of space , large number of people can get fit into it . It is beacuse of stack like design of building of building in which one there are multiple floors . For example , a 300 sq.yd. of bungalow can fit only 1 family while 300 sq.yd. for 4 storey building can accomadate 8 different families . So by doing this we can save lots of space and land .

Morever in city central area by designing large skyscrappers and appartment blocks most of its population will be able to live near to its city's heart and get access to basic civic facilities at nearest and fastest rather than travelling long distance from outskirts and suburbs. This will result in lesse fuel emission .

In conclusion, building tall appartments building will helps us to save over exploitation of land , lesser CO2 emission and cut down extra travelling time for residents .Furthermore, it will help people to get access to basic facilities of government with ease .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt directly, presenting a clear position in favor of building tall apartment blocks to solve housing shortages in large cities. The writer supports this stance with relevant arguments, such as efficient space utilization, preventing urban sprawl, and reducing travel times and fuel emissions. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat basic and general, lacking deeper elaboration or specific real-world examples beyond a brief hypothetical comparison of a bungalow and a 4-storey building. Despite these limitations in depth, the main parts of the task are appropriately addressed, aligning well with the criteria for Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance presented in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is utilized to separate different arguments, such as space-saving benefits versus environmental and accessibility advantages. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally mechanical or faulty, seen in phrases like 'Morever in city central area' and abrupt transitions. Referencing and cohesive devices are somewhat basic, and punctuation issues occasionally disrupt the logical flow. Nevertheless, the progression of ideas remains discernible, fitting the requirements for a Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully employing terms like 'over exploitation', 'skyscrappers', and 'civic facilities'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('Metropolitian', 'porper', 'appartments', 'samll', 'beacuse', 'accomadate', 'lesse') and word choice inaccuracies ('get fit into it', 'at nearest and fastest'). While these lexical errors occur frequently throughout the text, they do not severely impede communication as the writer's meaning generally remains clear. This performance is consistent with the Band 5 descriptors for lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and causative constructions ('by constructing tall appartments we can accommodate...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with missing articles ('authority', 'city central area'), incorrect pluralization ('tall appartments building will helps'), and awkward phrasing ('300 sq.yd. for 4 storey building'). Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent in places. These errors occur regularly and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, though they do not completely obscure the intended meaning, placing this response firmly at Band 5.
