Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's modern world the population is rapidly increasing, over that more and more people are moving to cities in hope of getting a job. And the best way to provide homes to everyone, is to build tall apartment blocks in the city.

I agree with this statement, the rapid growth of population is the biggest reason for increase in slum areas. As the members in a single are increasing the slum areas are getting wider. This needs to stop, and the first initiative which should be taken by government is removing the slum areas and buildung tall apartments. This will save a lot of space, as people will be distributed on the floors and a building will take much less space.

On one hand, it will provide everyone a permanent home. Not only a home, it will also increase the hygine around the area, as it will be constructed with all the facilities within each apartment. For instance, people living in slums are use to produce waste outside because they don't have a washroom in there house. But getting an apartment will change there practices and they will learn to maintain hygine. Initially they will have some problem to adjust, but eventually with time they will learn about the common hygine.

On the other hand, the government need to provide basic education specially for those people. In addition, the government also need to provide the instructions about the timing of water because in apartments it is not possible to provide fresh water all the time. Similarly, about electricity, timing of electricity and how should it be used, which will create minimal wastage for both water and electricity.

In conclusion, it is inportant to build tall apartment blocks in the city as the population is rising. It also contributes to the industrial and overall development of the city and the country. The government should take initiatives. It will also create more empolyment for the people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing with the statement, focusing on eliminating slums and saving space. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as discussing waste management and the transition from slum living to apartment living. However, some arguments lack full depth, and the conclusion introduces broader points like industrial development and employment which are not fully integrated into the main body paragraphs. Nevertheless, the main parts of the task are adequately covered, earning a solid Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The text is generally coherent and follows an understandable overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though some paragraphs mix distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', but referencing and linking are sometimes mechanical or awkward, such as 'over that' in the opening sentence. Progression is occasionally disrupted by abrupt transitions between points, but the text remains readable overall, placing it comfortably in the Band 6.0 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express basic ideas about housing, slums, and urban living. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary such as 'permanent home' and 'minimal wastage', but there are also frequent lexical and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'hygine' instead of 'hygiene', 'use to produce' instead of 'used to producing', and 'empolyment' instead of 'employment'. Word choices are sometimes repetitive or slightly unnatural, though they do not seriously impede communication, indicating a Band 5.5 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'As the members in a single are increasing the slum areas are getting wider.' However, control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are several noticeable grammatical errors, missing words, and punctuation slips, including 'buildung' (building), 'there house' (their house), and 'there practices' (their practices). While some sentences are accurate, the frequency of errors in complex structures and basic pronoun/possessive forms keeps the score at a Band 5.5.
