Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is argued that some people believe that it is the best way to provide more homes in large cities to develop tall apartment blocks. In my openion, i believe with this view because the tall building will be occupied less space and will provide more shelter for people in the big cities where population is already congested.
One major reason is that we will have more space on the ground when we will construct buildings with mpore rooms and make them tall in height. The road where we will develop will be wide and there wll be less traffic issues. For example a tall building contructed with room of almost 400 and we can provide accomodatio many people as big cities have large number of residents. As a result, we will accomodate our homeless people who are facing ssue to build their own houses.
Other reason is that, people can socialie with each other and have a lot of parking space in their building basement. People can spen quality time with their neigbourhood residents of the same buidling and they can enjoy a good view of city who are on the top floor. For instance, if someone can not afford to buy theri own separte house that is costly and difficlut to buy in the big cities where population is congested.
In conclusion, we should build tall apratmnents or buidling blocks to accomodate our most of the city residents who are struggling to find a better accomodation which they can easily afford.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear agreement with the statement that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities. The writer presents relevant ideas, such as saving ground space, reducing traffic congestion, accommodating more homeless individuals, and providing communal areas like parking and social spaces. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, with generalized explanations rather than fully extended arguments. For example, the mention of a building with 400 rooms lacks clear contextual elaboration. The position remains consistent throughout the essay, but the overall depth of exploration aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor, where all parts of the task are addressed, but certain ideas remain slightly under-developed or unclear.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement, featuring four distinct paragraphs including a clear introduction and conclusion. Logical organization is attempted through basic cohesive devices such as 'One major reason', 'Other reason is that', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'who are on the top floor' and 'who cannot afford to buy theri own separte house that is costly'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the response, but transitions between sentences can feel abrupt, which pulls the structural flow down to a Band 5.0 level where some organization is present, but progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their thoughts on housing and urban congestion. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary and topic-specific terms, such as 'congested', 'accommodation', and 'residential', but these are frequently marred by spelling and word-choice errors, including 'openion', 'mpore', 'contructed', 'accomodatio', 'ssue', 'socialie', 'neigbourhood', 'buidling', 'apratmnents', and 'separte'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their high frequency across the text prevents the response from reaching a higher band. The lexical range is minimally adequate, fitting the Band 5 descriptor due to noticeable spelling and morphological inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'where population is already congested' and 'if someone can not afford to buy theri own separte house'. However, control over grammar is weak, with frequent errors in verb tense, article usage, word order, and prepositional phrases (e.g., 'occupied less space' instead of 'occupy less space', 'height' redundancy, and 'accommodate our most of the city residents'). Complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to noticeable strain for the reader. The frequency of grammatical errors places this text firmly at the Band 5 level, where limited structures and recurring inaccuracies impede smooth readability.
