Student answer (Band 5.0)

The better way to provide enough shelters in huge cities is to construction of tall buildings. I clearly agree with each statement because it helps inter-national students and less expensive than owning homes.

The main reason why I strongly agree with this view is that many of the students and families who belongs from middle class familiy can afford the apartments, Usually it gives many opportunities for many people while living in cities area.their will be proper facilites in every single things. For instance, My sister is in abroad and she lives in apartment. She feels so comfortable living alone while being student too. So it can also gives you comfortable life style.

Secondly, another important reason is that constructing large build can help ecomically for the country. Usually apartments is less expensive than having house. Most of the developed countries has already provides a enough apartments for the people. While, developing country like nepal cant provides this type of facilities for the citizen. For example, In nepal people usually lives in a renting house but not in apartment because their is no apartment facilities living in renting house is not that easy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by stating a clear position of agreement regarding tall apartment blocks. However, the development of ideas remains limited and repetitive. The essay is significantly under the required word count, coming in at only 213 words against the 250-word minimum, which incurs a penalty for task length. While the writer attempts to provide supporting points such as affordability for middle-class families and international students, these arguments are somewhat generalised and lack sufficient extension. For example, the reference to Nepal and sister experiences are quite brief. To achieve a higher band, the response needs to fully develop each supporting argument with deeper analysis and ensure it meets the minimum length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a basic logical organisation with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though the division of ideas could be more polished. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often basic or awkwardly applied, such as 'Secondly, another important reason' and 'While, developing country'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'its' and 'their'. Overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow the main thread of argument, but progression is hindered by simplistic transitions and mechanical linking phrases, placing it firmly at a band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'better', 'huge', 'things', and 'house'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'shelters' instead of 'housing', 'construction of tall buildings' instead of 'constructing tall buildings', and 'ecomically' for 'economically'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success ('facilities', 'lifestyle'), but frequent inaccuracies in spelling and word formation restrict communication in places. The range is minimally adequate for the task, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures. While there are a few attempts at complex sentences, such as 'The main reason why I strongly agree with this view is that many of the students...', these constructions are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('who belongs from', 'country cant provides'), missing articles ('in apartment', 'in renting house'), and incorrect prepositions. Punctuation errors are also present, such as uncapitalised words after full stops and comma splices. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader.
