Student answer (Band 6.0)
The topic represents the best way to provide enough homes in large cities: to build tall apartment blocks. I completely disagree with this statement.
Firstly, building tall apartment blocks creates so many problems; for instance, privacy concerns, noisy environments, and health issues. If people are living in apartments, then these people face so many issues, like there being no privacy between families and neighbours because the walls are so thin and attached to each other's homes. They can listen to their talks and discuss with others. By contrast, Karachi is the city of apartments, and a lot of people could pursue living in a flat. These people may face many issues like fighting and shouting with each other. As a result, older people may have a serious effect on their health, like heart issues, and low self-esteem can affect children, so children may be stressed.
Secondly, the noise pollution is so high in the flats because people may listen to songs at full volume, and they are shouting loudly when they talk to others. Furthermore, they may also interfere in other private talks, and nobody may care about cleaning because everyone does not take responsibility for cleaning the floors and stairs. As a result, germ counts may increase and spread disease fast around them, especially among children. For example, my friend lived in a flat with his family last year, and all family members became ill because of the dirty environment in the apartment.
Moreover, some apartments should be clean and furnished and located in peaceful places, but they are so high-rated that everyone should not be offered such a price. Therefore, some people prefer normal apartments rather than luxury ones. Sometimes, providing enough homes in large cities by building tall apartment blocks can provide benefits like less pollution and less overcrowded areas. However, these benefits do not remove the problems related to privacy, noise, health, and cleanliness.
In conclusion, private homes are a better option because they offer more privacy and a healthier environment for children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly taking a stance against tall apartment blocks. You present several main ideas, such as privacy concerns, noise pollution, and health/cleanliness issues, and you attempt to support them with examples like your friend's experience. However, some arguments tend to over-generalize, and the development is occasionally repetitive or wanders slightly into contradictory points (such as mentioning potential benefits like less pollution in the fourth paragraph before dismissing them). While you cover all parts of the task and maintain a clear position throughout, the ideas could be extended more cohesively to reach a higher band. Overall, this performance aligns well with a Band 6.0, as all parts of the task are addressed, but the arguments remain somewhat under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall arrangement with logical paragraphing, beginning with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs focusing on specific issues, and a brief conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesion can feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition between sentences within your second paragraph feels abrupt, and phrases like 'As a result' are overused. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, but the logical progression between sentences lacks seamless integration. This warrants a Band 6.0 for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and descriptive phrases such as 'privacy concerns', 'noise pollution', 'low self-esteem', and 'dirty environment'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors that hinder precision, such as 'high-rated' instead of 'expensive' or 'high-priced', and 'germ counts may increase' which sounds slightly unnatural in this context. While communication is not impeded and your meaning remains clear throughout, the vocabulary lacks the flexibility and natural control required for higher bands. These limitations place your lexical resource score firmly at a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures like 'If people are living in apartments, then these people face so many issues...' and relative clauses. There are, however, several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, such as 'older people may have a serious effect on their health' (which misplaces the subject) and 'everyone should not be offered such a price' (which misuses quantifiers with negation). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but frequent minor errors in grammar persist. Because these errors rarely impede communication and you manage a mix of sentence structures, your grammatical range and accuracy achieve a Band 6.0.
