Student answer (Band 5.5)

The proper way to adress the problem of accomodation in big cities is to construct large domestic buildings. My stance does not aligns with this view at all because it will lead to congestion and greater loss in case of natural disasters.

One of the reasons because of which I do not agree with the view of building tall apartment blocks for coping with the problem of accomodation is that it will cause congestion. If more people are living in the same building this will lead to numerous problems. For instance, all people need certain basic things like water, gas, car parking and many more. Now if many people live in the same building it is very obivious that every one will try to get the greater share at thus problems will arise.

Apart from that, natural disasters will result in drastic consequences in such places. For example, if earth quick hits a tall building having many aparments and a society where people live in separate houses than the odds are that teh tall buliding will be in much alarming situation because the population over there is far greater then a single home. Many families are at the threat of loss in such conditions.

In conclusion, it can be argued that building tall aparment blocks in order to deal with the problem of accomodaton in big cities in not the right solution as it may lead to congestion and can put many lives at risk in case of alarmimg situations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position against building tall apartment blocks, citing congestion and natural disasters as primary arguments. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding congestion relies on general statements about basic resources without exploring wider urban planning consequences. The point regarding natural disasters mentions 'earth quick' hitting a tall building, but the supporting explanation is limited. Overall, the task is addressed, and main ideas are relevant, which aligns well with the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is coherent overall and follows a standard argumentative structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as congestion and natural disasters. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, as seen with phrases like 'One of the reasons because of which' and 'Apart from that.' Referencing is occasionally unclear, and logical progression within the body paragraphs lacks the smooth transitions characteristic of higher bands. Therefore, a Band 6.0 reflects this level of organization and cohesive control.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The writer attempts less common vocabulary such as 'congestion', 'natural disasters', and 'consequences'. However, there are frequent spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'adress' instead of 'address', 'accomodation' instead of 'accommodation', 'aligns' instead of 'align', 'obivious' instead of 'obvious', 'earth quick' instead of 'earthquake', and 'aparments' instead of 'apartments'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching Band 6.0, as the vocabulary control is constrained by basic inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('If more people are living in the same building this will lead to numerous problems'). However, grammatical errors are frequent and include issues with subject-verb agreement ('My stance does not aligns'), preposition use ('in case of natural disasters' vs 'threat of loss in such conditions'), and spelling/punctuation. While some sentences are accurate, the accumulation of errors in complex structures causes occasional difficulty for the reader, placing the response solidly at Band 5.0.
