Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. The main ideas, such as saving agricultural land and accommodating more families in urban areas, are relevant and extended, though the second body paragraph repeats similar points about land saving and facilities rather than developing distinct new arguments. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed, earning a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an overall logical arrangement. Paragraphing is used appropriately. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by repetitive ideas and mechanical cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand,' which are used incorrectly since both paragraphs argue in favour of the statement rather than presenting contrasting views. Referencing is occasionally unclear, yielding a Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts at less common items such as 'agricultural production' and 'high rise housing.' However, there are numerous word choice and collocation errors, such as 'storage of house' instead of 'housing shortage,' 'build many building,' and 'land valuation' instead of 'land value.' Spelling and morphological errors ('saved' instead of 'save') are noticeable but do not entirely impede communication, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'When we are build many building it affect the overall agricultural production.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout, with frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency (e.g., 'Some people believed,' 'can saved,' 'When make a tall apartments'). These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader, aligning closely with a Band 5.0.
