Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued that the effective way to provide accommodation in large cities is to build tall apartment. I strongly agree with this statement because it manages over population and provides maximum space efficiency.
Tall apartment blocks help to manage a large number of population. Major cities have got a large number of population like migrant workers from different districts and other countries as well. so to manage the accommodation for these huge population, tall apartment plays a crucial role. For example, In countries like china and india, the government and private company have made apartment in major cities to manage the density of population and provide living facilities for individuals.
Also, Big apartment helps in maximum space efficiency. As cities have got large number of population and if everyone wants to make their own home then it will raise difficulty regarding the space. Insead of making home, if the government and private companies invest in apartment then it will be great relief for the people living in the cities and also helps in space utilization. For instance, In london there is rule to not to make a new house instead of it they can manage the population by providing the apartment facilities which helps in space utilization.
In conclusion, I strongly agree with this statement because tall apartment helps to manage the over population in major cities and it also helps in maximizing space efficiency by providing hundreds of living units with High-rise buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student clearly states a position in the introduction and maintains it throughout the essay, agreeing that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities. Main ideas such as managing overpopulation and maximizing space efficiency are presented. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying on broad generalisations rather than deep exploration. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the response contains 246 words, which is four words short of the 250-word minimum. This negative constraint violation places a slight ceiling on the task achievement score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical or repetitive cohesive devices, such as 'Also' and 'For example'. Referencing can also be imprecise, as seen in phrases like 'instead of it they can manage'. While the logical flow is easy to follow, the lack of sophisticated cohesive control keeps this criterion at a mid-level band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'accommodation', 'population density', and 'space utilization'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'make an apartment' instead of 'build apartments', and 'raise difficulty regarding the space'. Spelling and word formation errors, such as 'Insead', also occur. Communication is not impeded, but the noticeable limitations in lexical precision prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in article usage ('the effective way', 'in london there is rule'), pluralisation ('a large number of population'), and capitalization ('china', 'india', 'london'). Punctuation slips, such as lowercase sentence beginnings, are also present. Although these errors rarely impede overall comprehension, the density of basic grammatical inaccuracies restricts the score.
