Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, Verticle development in major cities is status quo for providing enough residence. I compeltely agree with above notion. So, in forthcoming paragraph i have explained my stand with reasonable justifications.

First of all, Addresing the elephant in the room which is scarcity of land in city area. with urbanization happening this rapidly migration of people from other parts of country or state to one major city is immitent. Which will create shortage of land in the city which evantually results in deforestation and other major environmental changes. For instance, Dhaka which is capital of bangladesh and most populous city in the world is also present in top ten polluted cities of the world, led by deforestation around the city to absorb the flow of migration towards the city.

Moreover, Building taller buildings can reduce the land occupied by single family which helps in maintaining property price affordable in city. Verticle development helps Reducing looming problems of slums arising in city area which then become hindrance in city planning further. For instance, Lack of residence in city created Ghetto areas around mumbai, which is ofcource unplanned and with questionable living conditions. the largest slum in mumbai dharavi occupies aceres of prime land which can be used for millions of people if developed vertically.

To conclude, Tall apartment blocks which can reside thousends of people on same land parcel where two or three family used to live. It helps in controlling pollution. It also make city planning accesible and easy for city planners, Basic utility can be achived like water, elactricity, gas line etc as it will be provided by egencies as high number of consumers present at one place rather than in outscirts of city, where attaining basic utility take years. it also reduces travel time of peoples working in cities by allowing them residence in close proximity to office.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear, fully supportive position on building tall apartment blocks to solve urban housing shortages. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of Dhaka and Mumbai's Dharavi slum. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise slightly, and some points in the conclusion are somewhat repetitive regarding infrastructure benefits. The position remains clear throughout the response, and main arguments regarding land scarcity, affordability, and city planning are well-developed, aligning with Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall progression and logical organisation. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as land scarcity and reducing slum problems. Cohesive devices are employed, although there are noticeable mechanical errors and awkward transitions, such as 'First of all, Addresing the elephant in the room' and lowercase letters starting sentences ('with urbanization...'). Referencing is generally clear, but the overall mechanical control of cohesion holds the response at a Band 6 level.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The writer attempts less common vocabulary with some success, using terms like 'urbanization', 'imminent', 'proximity', and 'scarcity'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'Verticle' for vertical, 'compeltely' for completely, 'forthcoming paragraph i' with lowercase letters, 'Addresing', 'immitent', 'evantually', 'aceres', 'thousends', 'elactricity', and 'outscirts'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their high frequency prevents the score from reaching Band 6.5 or 7, placing it firmly at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, grammatical accuracy is weak due to numerous sentence-structure issues, fragments, and punctuation errors. For instance, 'Which will create shortage of land in the city which evantually results in deforestation' contains a dangling relative clause, and 'Basic utility can be achived like water, elactricity, gas line etc as it will be provided by egencies' features agreement issues and run-on tendencies. Frequent punctuation errors, missing capitalization, and awkward phrasing restrict the score to Band 5.0.
