Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The student attempts to address the prompt regarding whether building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. A position is stated ("i am largely agree with this veiw"), but the ideas are severely limited and under-developed due to the short length of the response. The text contains only 184 words, which significantly misses the 250-word minimum requirement. Consequently, the development of arguments is incomplete, and the second body paragraph trails off awkwardly at the end ("make assiseble life style. In addition, the construction of tall aparment blocks should be government help to us because public did'nt support to make u"). Because the task is only partially addressed and well under the required word count, this warrants a Band 4.0 for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response exhibits some basic organisation, dividing the thoughts into a brief introduction and two body paragraphs. However, overall progression is hindered by poor referencing and weak cohesive devices. For example, transitional phrases like "Although, the advantages of tall apartment blocks is that..." are misused, and referencing pronouns lack clarity. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph breaks off abruptly without a complete thought or conclusion. Cohesive devices are generally inaccurate and repetitive, placing this response firmly at Band 4.0 for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by severe spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include "grouth" instead of growth, "shortage" used correctly but surrounded by poor collocations like "series shortage", and misuse of words such as "assiseble" and "presure". The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate at best, but the high frequency of spelling mistakes and awkward phrasing strains the reader and obscures meaning at times. This profile aligns with the Band 4.0 descriptors for Lexical Resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The student demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences contain severe errors in basic grammar, tense agreement, and punctuation, such as "some people are agree with that because that is wide range effective way..." and "public did'nt support to make u". Complex sentence attempts are heavily flawed and frequently ungrammatical, impeding communication throughout the text. Errors are so frequent that they distort meaning in several places, fitting the Band 4.0 criteria for Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
