Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some individual are of the view that the most suitable way of providing enough homes in urban areas is to build tall apartment blocks. As afr as my view is concerned, i totally agree with this point of view. Building large apartment has vast amount of benefits.

Building tall apartments to provide homes is cost effective. As we know that people spent a large amount of their earnings and money on building houses, if tall apartment blocks are build rather than seprate homes, it will save alot of money which could be invested in other things, like the healyh care facilities, education etc, which will eventuallly be beneficial in long term. For instance building a a 10 apartment large building for 10 families is ,much cheaper than than building seprate homes for them as it will save the cost of land and many other expenses.

building large aptment is the best way of dealimg with the. As it is universally known that urban areas are highly populated, especially the large cities. Although cities are significantly big in term of land yet nearly all large cities faces the problem of land scarceness due to the massive population. All these people in cities needs shelter for themselves and their families to live, and if all of them made seprate homes it will create land issues. For instance all the big cities of the world have build large apartment building as ahomes fpr their residents rather than seprate houses as it save land for other purposes like industries, agriculture, hospitals etc.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position ('i totally agree with this point of view') and discussing the benefits of tall apartment blocks, specifically focusing on cost-effectiveness and land conservation. The ideas presented are relevant and extended with explanations and examples, such as comparing the construction of a building for 10 families versus separate homes. However, the development in places is somewhat repetitive and contains minor gaps in extension. It meets the criteria for Band 6.0 as it addresses the prompt adequately with a clear position, though some arguments remain slightly under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct ideas, such as cost and land scarcity. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. There are noticeable issues with referencing, such as the broken sentence 'best way of dealimg with the' in the final paragraph, and punctuation errors around conjunctions and spacing that disrupt the smooth flow. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or overused. This aligns well with the Band 5.0 descriptors, where organisation is present, but overall progression is hindered by mechanical cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'cost effective', 'scarceness', and 'universally known'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'seprate', 'healyh', 'eventuallly', and 'aptment'. While these errors do not severely impede overall communication because the writer's meaning remains discernible, they prevent the score from reaching a higher band. The lexical control is consistent with a Band 5.0 score due to the noticeable frequency of vocabulary and spelling inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures and relative clauses (e.g., 'if tall apartment blocks are build rather than seprate homes, it will save alot of money'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('people spent', 'tall apartment blocks are build'), punctuation omissions (missing spaces after periods and commas), and sentence fragments ('best way of dealimg with the'). These errors cause some difficulty for the reader but do not entirely obscure meaning. This performance fits the Band 5.0 level for grammatical range and accuracy.
