Student answer (Band 6.0)

Accomodation has become one of the most considerable problem encountered in large cities. There is no enough space left in cities to provide separate housing. In my opinion building tall apartment blocks in large cities is the best response in order to provide enough homes.

There is a huge surge noticed in human population which brings some major problems in resources providing. Having enough homes for the citizens is a considerable problem, to encounter this tall buildings with apartments blocks play a vital role. For Instance: 1 acre of land can provide houses to moreover 50 families in terms of private housing schemes, in contrast tall buildings with multiple apartments in the same 1 acre of land can accomodate well over thousands of families.

Furthermore, large cities with an expanding number of people cannot afford to provide houses in separate land to every person so constructing large buildings has been proved to be the best option in this case. Consequently this idea is much cheaper and easy to maintain because of the unlimited vertical space Such as: a building containing 20 floors can accomodate hundereds of people while capturing less horizontal space compared to private houses. This solves major problems in terms of resources, houses and facilities like living costs and accomodation.

In conclusion, in this era of increasing population, tall buildings with apartment blocks turns out to be the best housing plan and it is liked by majority of people too and the advantages are more considerable than drawbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the extent of agreement with the statement that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities. The position is clear throughout the essay, stating that tall buildings are indeed the best response. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as comparing the land usage of private housing schemes to high-rise apartments, noting that '1 acre of land can provide houses to moreover 50 families... in contrast tall buildings... can accomodate well over thousands of families.' While the arguments are somewhat general and tend to over-simplify urban planning challenges, they adequately address the prompt. The development of ideas is sufficient to satisfy the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7, clearly placing it within the Band 6 descriptor range where relevant ideas are presented, though some minor extensions could be more thoroughly explored.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Information and ideas are logically sequenced, beginning with the introduction of the problem, followed by two body paragraphs providing supporting examples regarding space and cost-efficiency, and concluding with a summary. However, cohesion is at times faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'Consequently this idea is much cheaper' lacks appropriate punctuation, and referencing words like 'Such as:' and 'For Instance:' are used somewhat awkwardly as sentence fragments. Paragraphing is utilised, but the second body paragraph is quite dense and could be subdivided for better clarity. Overall, the organizational structure is clear enough to follow easily, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'considerable problem', 'surge', and 'horizontal space'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the precision of the writing. For example, 'Accomodation' is misspelled with a single 'm' in several instances (e.g., 'accomodate'), 'moreover' is misused in place of 'more than' or 'around', and 'resources providing' is awkward collocation. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication. These characteristics fit comfortably within the Band 6 criteria, where an adequate range is shown alongside recurring lexical errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'There is a huge surge noticed in human population which brings some major problems in resources providing.' There are several grammatical errors and punctuation inaccuracies throughout the text, including missing commas after introductory phrases (e.g., 'In conclusion, in this era...'), run-on expressions, and articles missing or misused (e.g., 'There is no enough space'). Furthermore, 'turns out' in the conclusion is slightly informal. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the complex structures attempted show an effort beyond purely basic sentences. This balance of errors and mixed structures corresponds directly to the Band 6 descriptor.
