Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by stating an agreement with the statement that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing in large cities. However, the response is severely underdeveloped and falls drastically short of the required 250-word minimum, containing only 78 words. Due to this extreme under-length, the ideas cannot be fully developed or extended, and the response only touches upon the topic minimally. Based on the official band descriptors for Task Achievement, this severely constrained development places the response in the lower band categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a basic attempt at paragraphing with an introduction and a short body paragraph. There are simple cohesive devices used, such as 'While some have different views about this' and 'The primary reason why I agree'. However, due to the very short length of the text, overall progression is limited, and the argument abruptly halts before any substantive elaboration can occur. Paragraphing and logical sequencing are evident in intent, but the lack of content restricts higher placement.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited vocabulary range with noticeable spelling errors, such as 'suffiecent' instead of 'sufficient' and 'apartmens' instead of 'apartments'. Phrases like 'construct such taller building' also indicate awkward phrasing and collocation issues. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic topic introduction, the frequent errors and restricted range prevent the response from achieving a higher lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text contains a mix of simple and emerging complex sentence structures, such as concessive clauses ('While some have different views about this, I agree with this statement'). However, there is a noticeable grammatical error in the second body paragraph: 'The primary reason why I agree with this statement is that because this is beneficial...', which features redundant conjunction use ('is that because'). Despite this, basic sentence structures are mostly controlled, yielding a band 5.0 performance for grammar.
