Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by agreeing that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide homes. However, the task achievement is significantly undermined by two main factors. First, the word count is only 209 words, falling short of the mandatory 250-word minimum requirement, which directly impacts the depth of idea development. Second, while the writer mentions advantages such as the economy, agriculture, and social relationships, the arguments remain underdeveloped, vague, and lack clear examples. The position is stated in the introduction, but the supporting points quickly drift into loosely related concepts without robust elaboration. Consequently, this falls under the Band 5 descriptor where ideas are limited and under-developed, and the response is penalized for failing the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays an organizational structure with basic paragraphing, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding thought. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by run-on sentences and poor cohesive ties. For instance, the writer relies on repetitive and mechanical transitions such as 'Initially,' 'On the one hand,' and 'On the other hand,' which are sometimes used incorrectly to introduce arguments. Referencing is frequently unclear, leaving the reader confused about pronoun antecedents like 'they' and 'others'. Paragraphing attempts are visible, but internal paragraph cohesion is weak, with multiple distinct ideas crammed into single, lengthy, unpunctuated sentences. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5 category due to inadequate and inaccurate cohesive devices and a lack of clear overall progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used throughout the essay is basic, repetitive, and often inaccurate. The writer employs simple terms repeatedly, such as 'homes,' 'appartments' (spelled incorrectly as 'apparments' and 'appartments'), and 'space.' There are frequent word choice and spelling errors, such as 'Indiviuals,' 'realtionship,' 'humenbeing,' and 'rular area.' While the writer attempts some less common words like 'deforestation' and 'global warming,' their usage is clumsy and lacks lexical control. Furthermore, collocation errors are prevalent, such as 'give their dearest precious time.' Because the lexical range is narrow, repetitive, and plagued by noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that impede fluent reading, the response aligns with a Band 5 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical structure of the essay is heavily flawed. The response consists mostly of very long, poorly punctuated run-on sentences joined incorrectly by commas and conjunctions like 'therefore' and 'moreover.' For example, the opening sentence is a massive comma splice: 'This issue had sparked debate among Indiviuals from numerous part of years, In the modern era their is no enough land...' There is a severe lack of control over basic verb tenses, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'their is no enough land', 'government should have to create a schemes'), and punctuation. Complex sentence forms are attempted, but they are almost always faulty. Because errors are frequent, systematic, and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader to parse meaning, a Band 4.0 or 5.0 descriptor applies; a Band 5 is awarded due to the presence of some recognizable clause structures despite pervasive inaccuracies.
